Disclaimer: I do not eat vegetables and I always have to pick out every single piece of fibre from my food for the past 20 years BUT NOT IN THIS CASE. Well... I have to agree that Orchard Towers is quite a dodgy place at night. I got a shock during my first time there like "how in the world will anyone ever find their way here?!?!" I settled in with my friend and was still quite skeptical despite her disclaiming over and over again how it's the best Vietnamese restaurant ever. Believe me, I've never really been a fan of Vietnamese cuisine because of the excessive amount of vegetables found in every dish possible. Here, the shop owners (both Singaporeans) are really sweet and they address you by "sister" or "darling" HAHAHA. I tried the dry beef vermicelli and grilled chicken vermicelli ($5) and I think it's a tie between both!!! You're supposed to pour a generous amount of fish oil over the noodles + some chill. Mix it and enjoy the different textures and taste in your mouth. It's really savory and a taste which I've never tried before. I thoroughly enjoyed the sweetness of the beef, well seasoned grilled chicken and crunchiness of the vegetables coupled with the tasty noodles. There's also peanuts + shallots which makes the texture crunchier!!! Tip: the portions in the day time are larger than those served in the night time. Plus, expect a free soup/drink depending on the time of the day!!! :) I think it's the best and most underrated Vietnamese restaurant EVER. The fact that I can eat that thrice a week...pretty much proves my point.
My must-orders everytime. Crispy kuey teow with beef (foreground) and fried quail (background). #sooooogood
