Beach Getaway In The +66

Beach Getaway In The +66

The sunny sandy Asian country (??) first time in Phuket and Krabi, but no stranger to Thai food! Simply cannot get enough of the spicy, tangy, aromatic Thai flavors... I am so happy to be Asian #lulz

A little holiday withdrawal symptoms... Missing the bite size Khanom Bueang a little more than usual (for they were one of the 👍🏻 I've had close to best I've had at Bangkok's Old Siam Plaza). Phuket Weekend Night Market is a must visit when you are in Phuket.

(310bhat with free access to the salad bar) Very visually appealing skewers that were delightful to the palate. The thick pork fillet chunks were tender with the right amount of moist. Wrapped in savory bacon, it was a meat-licious affair alright. A complementary salad bar wrapped up the meal perfectly with some kick ass creamy spinach and more upscale salad items like beetroot, broccoli etc.
I would suggest skipping the affordable yet underwhelming steak mains though. Being a little too tough and slightly dry, you would rather go for the skewers!

One of the more underwhelming Thai meals we had on our trip. Sadly the Thai fare (Phad Thai, fried chicken and tom yum) fared poorly in terms of taste and flavor compared to the other restaurants we've tried.
Having said that the mango sticky rice was a saving grace being one of the better ones we've had. Well cooked, fragrant thai long grain glutinous rice with an appropriately sweet coconut "jam" and ripe yellow mangoes.
But here's the spoiler, pop by the opposite street food vendors in the evening and you might chance upon a vendor selling amazing mango sticky rice at a cheaper price tag 🙊

Trying out some cafe food in Krabi and I am very pleased with the spread at easy cafe. Do not be displeased at the modest menu and setting for the food and service will make up for it.
My tuna ciabatta came generous in portion and cost 75 Bhat (sgd3$). As we found out the daily baked ciabatta was supplied from maharat bakery, a neighboring bakery opened by a Dutch man.
The star of meal was definitely the coffee, the cafe uses their own sourced beans which tends toward the smooth non-acid coffee range. A very legit cuppa coffee.
Couple that with their awesome pancake (starting from 50bhat, sgd2$ for plain) that comes thick, dense and good on its own, my afternoon was officially made.

The other dish we had was the lasagna, do not expect fine Italian restaurant standards but just simple comfort food instead.

The genuine, impeccable service also won my heart over despite a slight language barrier. One should definitely visit easycoffee when in Krabi Town and maybe pop by maharat after for some honest bakes.

The hot pan meat is a must try here, watch your meat (prawns/beef/chicken) get sizzled in flames on a piping hot stone. The signature sauce used has a tangy, sweet and savory taste to it, a concoction of pineapples, tomatoes, fish sauce and other condiments I reckon. For the cream tom yum I actually expected a milk based tom yum but I got just really thick curry like broth which was very spicy-liciously comforting. The fried fish was very well handled too, the deep fried meat retained its tenderness and was crispy on the outside although drenched in a sweet, sour, savory (3 flavor) sauce.
We did not fancy the addition of ketchup in the Phad Thai, making a mental note to request it to be omitted the next time we have Phad Thai!

Deadly addictive pancakes/waffles, they technically use the same batter so both taste a-mazing. Decent breakfast buffet spread with an eggs station, variety of breads to select from etc.

40-45 Bhat (SGD$1.6-1.8) magnums? Could get used to this! Sadly they do not have the new infinity series here yet!

Finally but @80 Bhat near my hotel in kata beach, not exactly cheap?
Would recommend the ones at Krabi Town/Phuket weekend market where they come at more affordable price tags!

Tip#1: the price of a regular pancake (technically thin prata actually) decreases as you venture towards the town area away from the beach.
Tip #2: go for Nutella instead of chocolate sauce for the latter has a very unbalanced sugar:chocolate ratio.
The thinner your roti is stretched the crispier it gets (-:

Craving okonomiyaki after seeing my friend's photo of osaka's mizuno version (best I've EVA had)... Sadly this is no match in comparison but comforting when eaten hot.

[fresh catch from the stall/man in picture, cooking services at Khun Suwaphich BBQ] You will never find a seafood feast at this price tag in SG according to my parents.
Also the freshness of the seafood (alive and kicking, sent right to the kitchen) explains the trough of tourist haggling for best deals and relishing on a table filled with fresh catches.
* must try: The lobster soup cooked in cream/milk had a hint of Thai tangy flavor from the lime+lemongrass combination. Creamy goodness with a tangy twist makes the soup base tasty and absolutely appetizing! Had a second then third then 4th bowl....
Large Tiger prawns!! Wowow never have I had that fresh and meaty prawns, the large prawn head even had some really good prawn meat in it so please do not toss it away?

Another things to note: the Thai servers here do not really get what calamari squid means so use the term "tempura" instead. We had a difficult time explaining deep fried in batter to them and they still got our orders wrong. We only came to a mutual understanding with tempura and an additional charge of 150bhat for re-cooking the squid because of the initial wrong order.

Price: 2 lobsters, 2 crabs, 6 large tiger prawns, approx 5 squids (500g), 500g of cockles for 5200 Bhat (test of ur bargain skills, since the area is now very popular amongst tourist they take any opportunity to over charge so beware). Cooking service (100bhat per kg/ method of prep) , drinks and rice came up to about 1200 Bhat.
