Sounds familiar? That's because I just tweaked the tag line of Couchsurfing by changing "world" to "Singapore".
πŸ€—
While couchsurfing lets you make friends over the couch, @dineinnofficial lets you make friends over food. And that's how I met my friendly and engaging host, Shaaleni.
πŸ€—
Last Saturday, I had the most enjoyable afternoon having home-cooked Indian food while chatting with a new friend about Indian cuisine, culture and her dog. I'll do this again! If you are a fan of tender yet un-fatty mutton (all fats were painstakingly removed), Shaleeni's place is the first stop you should make on Dine Inn!
πŸ€—
@nahmj Thanks for introducing me to Dine Inn and Shaaleni!

I know it's only Monday, but it's never too early to start making plans for the weekend right?

They have just launched a new communal dining concept called "The Quarters Experience" where you will share the table and food with other foodies to enjoy a 10-Course Modern Singapore Dinner at one fixed price. You can think of this as an omakase with a known menu, served course by course in a sharing portion, like at a Chinese restaurant albeit with long tables.
πŸ‘«πŸ‘πŸ‘¬
Featured: Shiok Bak (Roasted Pork Belly). Other than this, you can also look forward to Chilli Clams with croutons, Chargrilled Chicken with Buah Keluak Sauce, Char-kissed Lobster and their famous Durian Creme BrΓ»lΓ©e! For Full Menu, visit @thequarterssg for the clickable link.
πŸ‘«πŸ‘πŸ‘¬
The fun thing is
(1) The food's great!
(2) You never know who you might meet at the table! It could be your new best friend, girl/guy of your dreams or a famous personality! I happened to meet the dashing and friendly Bobby Tonelli at the same table last Friday!

I love how they serve this.
1. Ramen arrives in a hot stone bowl.
2. Hot broth is poured into the ramen.
3. A lid with a chimney top will cover your bowl of ramen, allowing it to simmer.
4. Watch as the steam rises from the chimney lid!
🍲
I like this spicy pork bone broth, flavorful without being too salty. It's also awesome how the hot stone bowl kept my ramen hot throughout the meal! Unfortunately, their cha shu is not as tender as I would have liked. But for a rainy night, I'm not complaining as long as I get hot soup!

I wouldn't rave about them since they are pricey after all so I do have high expectations. But undeniably, they are pretty good if we disregard the price.
πŸŽ„
Roast duck has tender meat and a very nice sauce; Roast pork has crispy skin and is not too salty; Toro Char Siu (BBQ Pork Belly) is sinfully good with melt in the mouth fats and a pretty good honey sauce.

Merry Xmas Eve everyone!

The Japan Rail Cafe has opened in Singapore! In case you are wondering if this is another themed cafe (like Gudetama or Hello Kitty Cafe) with Japan train decor or food made to look like trains, it is not.
πŸš‰
Instead, this cafe, which is the first overseas venture by East Japan Railway Company, is positioned as a one stop solution for Retail Therapy, Japanese-Western Food and Purchase of Rail Passes. (Note: Some rail passes are only available outside Japan. For passes that are also available in Japan, prices here is also be cheaper but subjected to changes according to the daily exchange rate.)

Featured: Kaisen Avocado Don S$18 Nett from @japanrailcafe
🍚🍡
This is a very healthy rice bowl served with ten-grain (multigrain) rice, thinly sliced salmon sashimi seasoned with lemon soy sauce, cooked meaty scallops with gills, avocado, cucumber cubes and ikura.
🍚🍡
There are 2 ways to eat this, as a donburi or as an ochazuke. The recommended way is to consume half as it is served then pour in the provided soup (choice of original/dashi) into the remaining half to enjoy as an ochazuke. Personally I prefer to eat this as an ochazuke with the original soup.
🍚🍡
As I am one with a lighter palate, this dish pleases me very much. But if you are one who prefer a saltier dish with stronger flavors, I'll advise you to add in the condiments (mentaiko, sesame seeds & seaweed) provided at the side and get the dashi soup instead of the original soup.

At only S$11.50 before taxes, it includes 2 amazing scones served with butter, homemade cream and strawberry preserve, finger sandwiches, a slice of cake and coffee/pot of tea.
β˜•οΈ
In the many times I've visited, their scones remain consistently good; warm, crunchy outside and fluffy inside. I also like that the scones are not flavored or added with ingredients like chocolate, blueberries or raisins. To me, scones are best to be plain so that they can be properly enjoyed with dollops of homemade cream and strawberry preserve.
β˜•οΈ
And in my recent visit, I was happy to note that Fosters has finally replaced the fruit cake (not my kind of cake) to light cheese cake (totally my kind of cake)! No promises that the fruit cake will not make a return but let's enjoy the cheese cake while it lasts! They have also changed the ham sandwich to tomato ones, making this a vegetarian-friendly afternoon tea set.

And I was pleasantly surprised that a little drizzle (not too much) of the maple syrup does go well with the chicken wings. If you like honey BBQ wings, you should give this a try.
πŸ–
For those who dislike sweet stuff, not to worry because the maple syrup is served separately. On their own, the chicken wings are delicious too, not overly seasoned like some places and not too bland either. Price is a little on the high side though.

Add S$1.50 for maple stout bacon.
🍦
This looks like an ice cream cone but is actually truffle mash potato served in a waffle cone with honey brown sauce in a syringe. Right beneath the smooth mash potato infused with truffle oil, you will also find some yummy cereal bits.
🍦
The optional bacon is marinated in stout beer and lazed with maple syrup, adding a little sweet into this otherwise savory treat. Though I don't usually like foods that marry sweet and savory flavors (sea salt being the only exception), this one worked for me.
🍦
Overall, I find this an interesting snack to have. But it's a little pricey so next time I will just go for the non charcoal version which is S$1 cheaper.
