My drink of choice - The Go(o)dfather ($24+). I didn't order this for the aesthetic, but it is pretty cute - look at the conical flask with a cork popped on top to keep the smoke in!

& smokey it is - one whiff & you can tell. Not just because of the peatiness of the Lagavulin 16 Single Malt 😍 A great tribute to its inspiration, The Godfather, it stays true to its roots with Amaretto, but also the excellent addition of Ron Zacapa 23 Rum.

With cherry syrup & an actual cherry inside, if you're not a fan of cherry flavours, you should obviously skip this. If you're not a fan of bitter drinks (this one has black walnut bitters, of which the taste is rather distinctive), you should also skip this.

But if you're like me & The Godfather is one of your favourite classics, & also holds a special meaning for you, then go for it, you won't be disappointed.

Most of their new signature cocktails menu are self-explanatory, but Beauty in a Cup ($22+, foreground) required some explanation by friendly bartender, Mike. "An Ode to Chrysanthemum Tea", it says - the drink really does do this statement justice, alluding to the Chrysanthemum-infused gin. It is hella tasty & really reminiscent of Chrysanthemum tea.

What needed explanation was the "secret beauty syrup" - a concoction of lotus seeds, wolfberries, & snow fungus reduced to a gelatinous consistency. I hope I got that right πŸ˜‚

This is a great cocktail that is fragrant but not sweet. I'm loving it 😍 I don't need beauty sleep after drinking this, I can sleep when I'm dead.

In the background: Spice My Monkey Up ($22+) is one of their more popular drinks, inspired by one of my favourites, the Whiskey Sour. Monkey Shoulder Blended Scotch, lemon & honey syrup. Topped off with a ginger foam that adds a nice spicyness to the drink.

There are options for those who wish to have something lighter & refreshing on the palate - Lady in Red ($20+) uses a base of raspberry-infused vodka with lychee liqueur; the sweetness of which, together with the rose syrup, is balanced with lemon juice. This goes down pretty easy, especially for those who love fruity & sweet drinks - so be careful.

Comes with a psychedelic "ice cube" that changes colours every second - fairly difficult to photograph 🀯

What swept me off my feet was the Kopi-O Fashioned ($22+). Coffee-infused scotch - sounds intriguing, tastes amazing.

This drink also has maple syrup for a very slight hint of sweetness (think "kopi siu siu dai"), & cardamom bitters. Topped off with stout-reduced foam for that added ooh & aah.

Totally agreeing with Amanda that we could drink this every morning πŸ˜› One of my favourites of the night πŸ‘πŸ»

An Unusual Wake Up Call ($22+) is a pleasant concoction of Hendrick's Gin, lime juice, rosemary syrup & egg white - I was sold after reading the first 2 ingredients. There is CHILLI PADI in this too, btw. Sounds crazy, but it works. Overall, a very refreshing drink that I would order again.

Lighting is dim here (you can tell I used an external light source), which might bother the do-it-for-the-'gram-ers, but nothing that an external light source can't fix. I personally like the dim ambience as the cosy comfy chill vibes for a bar is right up my alley.

Say hooray to Jekyll & Hyde's brand new cocktail menu! Amazing variety across 17 different concoctions inspired by classics, but with their own unique spin on it.

& when I say unique, I mean it. Take Sesame Street ($22+), for example: A vodka-based drink with coconut cream, black sesame & ginger pandan syrup. While this wasn't exactly my cup of tea, it does go down smoothly & I would imagine this being a big hit with black sesame/tau-hwey lovers.

I love Jekyll & Hyde, & I'll keep coming back. I think this might be one of those places where I would finish swiping all 4 of my Burpple Beyond deals in no time.

Surprised to meet the owner Ee Chien & have him tell me that remembers my review. It's an honour 😁

Reviews of some of the signature cocktails from their new cocktail menu coming soon.

The Tonsoku ($13++) was pretty ordinary to me. Kind of like a Japanese rendition of 區肉ι₯ (Braised Pork Rice), the combination of braised pig trotters with a runny egg on a bed of rice was nothing to shout about... But it could be in part because I'm not a 區肉ι₯ fan. Don't shoot me. I love noodles4eva.

The Inaniwa Udon ($18++) had a pretty awesome umami prawn broth. I mean, the prawn tempura was crispy, & the udon was springy.. But it truly was the broth that stole the show. I wish there were more in the bowl! Dabao pls.

Last but certainly not least, the Small Bowls menu. These portions are small, like the menu advises you. You're at an izakaya anyway, so you don't expect to be uncomfortably stuffed to the brim.

I preferred the noodles over the rice option we had. Somen ($12++) had cold noodles which were totally slurpable. The ikura on top burst in my mouth as I happily chewed on my mouthful of slightly bouncy noodles, adding a welcomed tinge of the Taste of the Ocean. T'was good because I felt the sauce was lacking in oomph.

The Momo ($4++) chicken thigh option is also a safer bet of actual "regular" meat - t'was juicy & flavourful.

Thanks Yujin Izakaya for the hospitality & Burpple for the invite! πŸ’•

For those who aren't so adventurous, the Tsukune ($6++) is an option. Traditionally served as meatballs, this took me by surprise as one really long meatball lol. I liked the texture of the meat & the bits of cartilage inside, but unfortunately this was a bit too salty for me.

Thanks Yujin Izakaya for the hospitality & Burpple for the invite! πŸ’•
