Tanamera Coffee also offers the Traditional Yusheng ($45.80++) option - it is what youβd expect it to be, & I appreciate that this dish isnβt as sweet as some other yushengs Iβve had.
Special shout-out to the copious amounts of crackers ι»ιζ»‘ε°, which I believe kids would loveβ¦ & perhaps adults too (adults are essentially just very big kids, right?). My family always adds an extra packet of crackers to our yusheng for the kids each year π
A 3-day advance order must be placed for all yusheng orders; last day to do so is CNY Day 1 εδΈ 22nd Jan 2023 (for it to be ready on the 25th). If you purchase 2 yusheng platters (Pecel or Traditional yusheng), you can get them for a special promo price of $88++ total.

How intriguing - Pecel Yusheng ($45.80++) is Tanamera Coffee's spin on lunar new year yusheng, which has a variety of veggie noodles, fried tofu (which we forgot to put in frame for the picture π), hard boiled eggs, peanut crackers & smoked salmon. Definitely getting some good fibre & nutrients in with carrots, red & white cabbage, radish, turnip, cucumber & capsicum here.
With an Indonesian-style peanut sauce as the dressing, this is pretty much like a gado-gado salad that you can toss & shout auspicious sayings while doing so.
I found this unique & quite delicious⦠Petition to put this permanently on the menu as an option, please! They actually already have this on the regular menu as Pecel ($11.80++), but it comes with veggie sticks instead of thin veggies noodles.
I loved the oodles of spirulized noodles, although great care must be taken when apportioning them as they are really long strandsβ¦. But I guess that symbolizes mucho longevity ιΏε½ηΎε² am I right?? πΊπ»

I was excited about the Ultimate Seafood ($48+) donburi, after seeing there is no fish in the ingredients list (I canβt eat raw fish). They make up for it with other premium seafood ingredients: River eel, pan-seared Hokkaido scallops & foie gras.
Youβd probably only appreciate this donburiβs value if you like these items to begin with. I guess itβd seem quite pricey if you didnβt. I personally enjoyed this mix of seafood, topped off with ikura & tobiko which burst delightfully to inject a taste of the ocean in my mouth - & I mean this in a good way. Onsen Egg is, as always, a bonus for me too.
With Burpple Beyondβs 1-for-1 deal, this meal was made even sweeter. I must admit, though, I wasnβt a fan of the rice, & this applies to all donburis. It was on the mushy side, a disappointing contrast to the expectation of individual, separated grains of rice in every spoonful. We did give them feedback in hopes that they can improve on this.

Saketoshiβs donburi menu is quite extensive, with both land animals & sea creatures as options π€ With Burpple Beyond, you get 1-for-1 on these rice bowls, making this quite a steal - for some more so than others.
Take the Signature Beef Donburi ($19++) as an example. Dividing the price by 2 makes this quite a steal, considering itβs beef & truffle caviar dish.
I did feel that the premium Australian beef slices were already nicely seasoned... So, together with the sauce doused on top, this was too salty for me. Thankfully, I was able to mitigate this by scraping away the generous portion of sauce to the side, & mixing in the onsen egg which was lovely & creamy.
In addition to the dollop of truffle caviar, this dish was also topped off with sliced leeks & scallions, & fried garlic chips for added crunch.

Another one of my favourites is the Uni Seaweed Tempura ($24++ for 2 pieces), again at a different price point.... Heh. Not your everyday bar snack, I reckon π¬
I love me a good sea urchin that is fresh & creamy, & this was exactly that. Seasoning is kept simple on this one - shoyu, truffle caviar & scallions. The seaweed tempura that each spoonful of uni is served on gave good crunch to each bite. Overall, great mouthfeel & flavours.

Another karaage specialty & my personal favourite - albeit at a different price point - is the Japanese Oysters Karaage ($24++ for 6 pieces). I love my oysters raw, but Iβll make an exception for these deep fried japanese oysters.
I liked how the batter isn't oily; it remains crispy with a slight crunch to it, contrasting harmoniously with the soft flesh of the oysters within. The oysters are plump & juicy, a little bit creamy - which is my preference.
This platter is served with lemon & Tabasco sauce, of which the latter isnβt really needed IMHO. Itβs so good on its own, or just with a tiny squeeze of lemon to add a bright spark to your bites.

While we're still on the fried food bandwagon... The same thoughts apply to the Ika Geso Karaage ($15++) as well. Pretty addictive deep fried squid tentacles π Slight personal preference for this over the Chicken Karaage, but both are good IMHO.
The sauce is quite special, too. Donβt let the ghost pepper mayo on the side intimidate you - itβs not numbingly tormenting, nor does it tickle your throat uncontrollably. A nice hint at the end that will have you wanting more.

Iβm someone who doesnβt crave deep fried food - in fact, dare I even say I donβt quite enjoy it? But I was baffled by how I couldnβt stop snacking on the karaage served... There was something about these that kept me hooked.
Even though we took a while to take pictures, the exterior of the Chicken Karaage ($15++ for 10 pieces) wasnβt tough or stale-tasting, despite having been left out for a while. The deep-fried chicken thigh was juicy & tender, a surprising winner in my books.

If you're seeking out the lighter side of life & just looking for munchies, there are options here too. We nibbled through these dishes on the small bites menu:
πΈ Asian Chili Chicken Karaage ($12++)
πΈ Seasonal Fresh Truffles Parmesan Cheese Fries ($16++)
Had some teas (both cold brewed & hot ones) while we made a toast to good health:
πΈ Amint Tea ($6.50++)
πΈ Empire Citrus Tea ($7.50++)
& ended off with some sweet treats:
πΈ Aburi Pandan Coconut Cheese Cake ($12++)
πΈ Strawberries Bread Pudding & Vanilla Ice Cream ($11++)

Teeming with housemade japanese mentaiko & tobiko, the Umami Mentaiko Smoked Salmon Toast is where Chef Evan goes all out with his creativity here.. There's even chicken floss in this salmon dish!? Hand to heart, not sure how I feel about that..
.. But overall, the flavours came together fairly well. Umami came through from the salmon roe, brineyness from the smoked salmon itself, nicely poached nuyolk eggs & a sprinkle of scallions & furikake - on a crispy, toasted sliced of sourdough.

Brunch fare at Evan's Kitch is more than just toast & basic things. We tried 2 options:
πΈ Umami Mentaiko Smoked Salmon Toast ($21++)
πΈ Asian BBQ Pulled Pork Toast ($17++, pictured)
I favoured the smoked salmon one over the pulled pork - as I'm not a fan of pulled pork in general. I also felt the creaminess of & cabbage slaw was at loggerheads with the acidity of the BBQ flavours & citrus sauce. However, it's something unique for sure - so if you're adventurous, I'd say give it a shot.

My favourite dish at Evan's Kitch was the North Malaysia Slow Cooked Coconut Beef Stew ($24++), also another signature dish of theirs. This heavyweight winner was a rich, creamy rendang with tenderly stewed cubes of beef. The level of heat in this spicy stew wasn't overpowering & that was how the flavours truly shine.
You might think the egg is out of place in this one - but nah, I quite liked it. It added to the creamyness of the already-lemak rendang in a pleasant way.
I reached for second helpings of the sourdough toast to dip into the stew. Just too good. I can imagine this going super well with rice (which I believe is an option available) - comfort food after a long, arduous day in the office.... Mmmm.
