An unexpected discovery of this delightful fried Hokkien noodles infused with rich and sweet prawn stock as well as ample wok hei [a.k.a. breath of wok] @ a Hainanese chicken rice eatery today! 🫶🏻
We also ordered plates of their signature steamed chicken. The chicken meat was tender and moist, however the jiggly gelatin-like texture layer under the skin was lacking.

Today’s ultimate comfort food — simple Teochew porridge dishes that I grew up eating. As a child growing up in the Eighties, I remember my late grandmother serving up these dishes whenever we visited them over the weekends.
These crowd favourites including steamed pomfret, steamed minced meat with salted egg and chye poh [a.k.a. preserved radish] omelette, is as close as one will get to home-cooked food. 🫶🏻

I’m no expert in Peranakan or Nonya cuisine, but these two classic dishes are sooooo satisfying! 👍🏻
Love these incredibly tender and flavourful, fatty braised pork belly with radish and mushrooms [a.k.a. babi pongteh] simmered in fermented soya bean paste, soya sauce and spices.
On the side, the braised chap chye served with sweet cabbages, carrots, black fungus, mushrooms and dried shrimps did not disappoint us. Mixed vegetables stewed till soft in a robust tau cheo [a.k.a. fermented soya bean paste] gravy that goes perfectly well with the blue pea rice.
Something sweet to end my meal — ondeh ondeh filled with molten palm sugar. It’s exactly how I ❤️ it — gula melaka squirting out when I bite into these soft, chewy glutinous rice balls covered with shredded coconut 🥥. 🫶🏻

Their signature dry version comes with a bowl of noodles and soup served separately — Springy handmade noodles mixed with slightly sweet-savoury dark soy sauce, crunchy anchovies, braised mushrooms, minced meat, meatballs and abalone slices is pure comfort and winsome! Slurp up the cloudy soup bursting with umami flavour to enjoy the full experience. 😋

It has been nearly 3 years, since I last visited Time Table Cafe. This was my favourite lunch spot and the only cafe within walking distance from the previous location of my workplace.
Side note: My drink is just plain warm water. This is obviously for my mum since I’m a non-caffeine drinker.
