All Day Brunching & Munching

All Day Brunching & Munching

All about that eggs benedict, smashed avocado on toast, poached eggs....... yummmmm

Don’t flame me for paying $18 for an egg please. Angelina’s 𝙏𝙧𝙪𝙛𝙛𝙡𝙚 𝙊𝙢𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚 (~$18) was the right consistency and all, but not a $18 for eggs kinda goodness.
-
Wobbly on the outside, and melty on the inside, Angelina certainly did know how to whip up a solid omelette. Though perhaps labelling ‘truffle’ on it ain’t quite right.... Sure, I smelt a faint truffle scent, but taste wise, barely anything. This begs the question: how much are you willing to pay for an egg? 🍳

2020 has been, undoubtedly a tragic year. But then @gathershop.co brought back 𝙍𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙣’𝙨 𝙁𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙚 (~$18) aka the best French toast I’ve ever had, which made things way better 🥺
-
Is it the same as Ronin’s? I’d say 90% so. I recall Ronin’s to be more eggy all the way through: Gather’s recreation was nearly there: just the surfaces of the French Toast lack the familiarity of the original.
-
But tbh, still the best French Toast I’ve had thus far, and boy have I had too many French Toasts 🤡

Ig @goodfomood

Come for their coffee, not the food. The 𝙎𝙪𝙧𝙛 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙏𝙪𝙧𝙛 (~$21.50) saw overly fishy salmon against a limp soggy muffin, and scrambled eggs that make me miss Microbakery’s. The pulled beef was sufficiently sweet tho. 🍳🥩

If you ever feel mediocre, just remember that the 𝙎𝙖𝙡𝙢𝙤𝙣 𝙈𝙖𝙙𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨(~$19) exists. To be fair, the salmon portion is HUGE, and it’s definitely a bang for your buck.
But it’s also inconsistent: moist at times, drier than the Sahara desert at others.
That being said, the roasted veggies that came with it were pretty tasty 😛

Ig @goodfomood

One word: Overwhelming. That’s exactly what I felt about the 𝙋𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙖𝙠𝙚. 𝘽𝙖𝙘𝙤𝙣. 𝙁𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩. 𝙈𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙘. (~$23)
-
I do love me a good sweet and savoury balance, but here it’s confusing, extra, even. Maple infused pancakes were dense and sweet, and it paired awkwardly with the onion jam and barbecued butter. 🥞
-
Dangling aesthetically from a pole (?) were three types of bacon: paprika, bacon back and maple glazed. I wasn’t a fan of the paprika one especially, since it clashes the already messy flavours even more.🥓
-
The components are good, but ON THEIR OWN. The pancakes would’ve been good with ice cream and butter, the bacon would’ve been good with fluffy hotcakes. Throw them together and it’s a recipe for tastebud disaster. ☹️

Loaded with delicious thicccc globs of feta cheese to thicken the tomato sauce base, this 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙠𝙨𝙝𝙪𝙠𝙖 (~$12.90) adopted a creamy texture.
-
Personally loved the addition of dukkah to nullify the sweeter taste of the base, and the wobbly eggs!!!! Burst worthy🥺
-
Added some 𝙎𝙢𝙤𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙎𝙖𝙡𝙢𝙤𝙣 (~$3.50) for more meat on top of the Chorizo: good for slow Sat brunches, though the Shakshuka could be more tangy.

I’m on a hunt to find some decent French toast in Singapore after @ronin.sg and @boufesg closed, and sadly Sarnies’ 𝘽𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙘𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙝 𝙏𝙤𝙖𝙨𝙩 (~$22.50) was not up to par.
-
When looking for French toast, I’m looking for a strong eggy and custardy presence. Sarnies’ was none of that. A hard, tough and thick brioche toast wasn’t easy on the jaws, and I missed the whole eggy component. ☹️
-
There’s only so much generous toppings can do: though their Choco crumbs and fresh berries could nearly mask up some of my disappointment.

If I could have the 𝘽𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙛𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝘾𝙡𝙪𝙗 (~$14) for every breakfast, I will possibly wake up in time fr brekkie 😤
-
If you think about it, these are really simple ingredients. But when you put the gyuere peppery sauce with the ham and cheddar, between a toasted sea salt bagel, the salt from the bagel brings out the creaminess of the ingredient mix. 😋

Ig @goodfomood

If you want to experience what it is like to be catfished, try the 𝙁𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙝 𝙏𝙤𝙖𝙨𝙩 (~$15). Sitting pretty and littered with nuts and fruits, the French toast was a huge disappointment, with no hint of the eggy gooey goodness I love. 🍞
-
Instead, these hard and crusty bread slices were dry, and the bitter pasty salted caramel sauce did little to salvage this mess. At least the toast was really fluffy and airy though.

Ig @goodfomood

I really wanted to like Two Baker’s 𝙎𝙥𝙞𝙘𝙮 𝘾𝙧𝙖𝙗 𝘽𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙩 (~$17), but well, it just fell short. The croissant was perfect: buttery and so perfectly flaky, but they ruined it with the way overdone eggs and barely any spicy crab. If I wanted an egg croissant, I could’ve gotten that 🥐 — I can’t justify the price for this.

Ig @goodfomood

Drinks wise, my favourite was the 𝘾𝙝𝙤𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙋𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙪𝙩 𝘽𝙪𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙠𝙚 (~$7). My two favourite flavours put together in a good balance 🥤

Ig @goodfomood

Our 𝙂𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝘽𝙧𝙚𝙠𝙠𝙮 (~$15.50) managed the sweet pulled pork well, though the sourdough was too buttery for a good pairing. -
