these two were the heavy hitters among other dishes we ordered.

this live turbot fish was a first for me as well. we had it steamed with soya sauce and fried ginger. meat was smooth and not tough. if fish is freshly steamed, dont think we can find faults with it.

next image shows the irish roast duck. typical roast duck. fatty, succulent, flavourful. easily a crowd pleaser.

food here is nice but service was kinda slow even though there was only another table during lunch time time. prices are on the higher side to me. the fish alone cost us $160.

all i had to do was arrive and eat. #ezburgerezlife. lol.

she ordered the signature for me, whichever that is. burger buns were the brioche variation. buttery and fragrant, with the juicy patty and some secret yummy sauce. just yummy. but i cant say the same for the fries. nothing special. and they were kind of overfried if anything.

i got a peking duck from imperial treasure.

super big spread. definitely overkill for 4 of us. the white beehoon was what we had previously. looks bland but has flavour in every mouthful. omelette was nice but slightly oily. sweet and sour pork was abit lacking. perhaps due to the da bao-ing. not crispy at all.

been a long time since we had peking duck. and i was momentarily confused by the sorting out. skin in the middle is to just dab with sugar.

the slightly fatty parts at the bottom should be the ones we use to kiap with the popiah skin for the classic peking duck roll. and the meatier ones at the top should be the ones we just eat it on its own. -
and not forgetting the ee mian with the remaining duck meat. peking duck 达人s please let me know if this is incorrect. peking duck has always been my bias. so of course its yummy.

so teppanyaki omakase at osaka kitchen for dinner.

first image was not my favourite. but the okonomiyaki is their signature and a specially crafted dish with candles. the batter was a tad too thick and we got sick of it after a few bites and it did not help that it was the second last dish. but still props to the friendly and attentive staff.

second image shows the pork belly wrapped in japanese omelette. so simple, yet so satisfying. and the touch of the ever-sinful mayo and their in-house sauce made the dish even more layered.

third on my list was the unexpected avocado with melted cheese. the sides of the cheese was grilled to a good crisp and the middle was oozing all the cheesy goodness. compliments well with the milky texture of the avocado.

the teppanyaki proteins, however did not appeal to me. the prawn and scallop were normal. the beef was soft and tender but it was tasteless. we also ordered their sake. but oh my. the damn thing smelt and tasted like bai jiu. so much different from the one i had with jy at teppan kappou.

major redeeming factor here was the friendliness of the staff and the overall fun ambience. good service does help afterall.

so we got dominos and mlxg delivered to the hotel for our anniversary dinner. at least we utilised the hotel stay max.

think it has been at least a good 5 years when i last had dominos. good old mj days at river valley with the guys, with the legendary god of trolls among them. both orders arrived in less than 30min.

my favourite classified sauce still remains as nice as ever. no regrets ordering it. the other seafood pizza was quite normal. mlxg was normal as well but the portion was crazy big.

first time having omakase at hachi. only remembered having their lunch bento at mohd sultan branch with #cptljy.

wagyu set for me and lunch set for her. difference between the two sets are quite minimal; only the chawanmushi and sushi dishes. images have been arranged in order of my personal likes.

first up is the wagyu beef cubes with a very interesting sardine keropok. slightly charred on the outside, melty on the inside with a subtle beefy taste which was not overpowering. cant get enough of these.

next will be the appetiser. succulent scallop wrapped in a piece of crispy seaweed on a bed of edamame puree. loved how the scallop and the seaweed come together to form such a magnificent combination.

third on my list is the dessert. noodles made out of konyaku i believe with peach cubes which were surprisingly not too sweet. silky and super nice to slurp.

honourable mention to the white eel sushi which is supposedly sea eel and not the usual river eel we have. its sweeter and not as fishy.

raw food is not really my thing so sorry raw beef sushi. oyster too. first time i had oyster and i was able to stomach it perhaps due to the ponzu sauce. and it was the same reason xy thought that might have covered the sweet oyster taste. she did mention its very fresh though.

fresh ingredients, good ambience, background music and courteous staff. worth a trip if your wallet is feeling healthy.

same lu rou fan from my last visit, a chia yi chicken rice and a bittergourd chicken soup.

xy said the lu rou fan tasted like the canned bak tng. 😂 the chicken rice was lacklustre. a random chicken rice in any kopitiam trumps this even if they are at the same price point. the tw sausage which we added on was not bad though. taste of nostalgia. the soup was quite nice. kinda homely.

since the one she initially proposed was fully booked, i went with this place instead. and it yielded results which were not bad.

ordered a set of full omakase each and a serving of cold sake to share. first time having sake and it was alright i guess.

images are in the order of my likes. favourite would be the beef steak. grilled nicely teppanyaki-style. beefy and good on its own without the need for any other condiments.

second favourite was the asari soup with sakura ebi. clams were plump and juicy and the shrimps added a nice sweet touch to the already robust soup while retaining their own crisp.

third dish on my list was the appetiser which consisted of white asparagus and friends. loved the asparagus. sweet and nice to bite into. but the one i had previously at the dbs treasures private client dinner was nicer though.

sashimi was fresh and i particularly like the spanish mackerel here. liked the texture of the fish and which glides down the throat easily without the need to resist any fishy-ness.

cooked items were just normal to me. nothing spectacular. the garlic rice only had a slight hint of garlic and the egg was not exactly liquid for me to mix with the rice. kyuu definitely does the cooked stuffs better. seasonal fruits were the dessert of the day which i believed is fig as enlightened by my dining companion.

overall an omakase lunch which was quite alright. not overly ex as compared to other places while keeping me both satiated and satisfied. and happy belated bday jy!

6 of us ordered 5 different bowls of noodles to try out. there was the the signature soup, pickled veg aka 酸菜 soup, mala soup, and two dry noodles with beef and chicken. and not to forget the wide spread of sides that they offer too.

first up will be signature which was alright. the broth was beefy yet not too over. and then the 酸菜. was trying to find the spicy kick that everyone else was talking about but i failed. mala here will be a good starting point for the non spicy peeps out there. beef slices were surprisingly tender despite the tough look.

the dry version was the one which appealed to me. add in some of the chilli paste they set at every table. stir it up abit. boomz. imba combination. and the chicken meat was pan fried first which gave it a nice fragrance. and the soft texture of the meat won it for me.

noodle wise, we were able to choose between different textures from thin, normal, thick, thicker and a special form called flat. between the four textures, thick suited me well. however, with flat in the mix, this mee hoon kuay lookalike wins. personal bias.

the noodles go for an average of $10 and for the portion given in a nice air con setting, its kinda value for money.

the girls chose an earl grey passionfruit cake, goma cake, isphan cake and a cheesecake?. isphan tasted like bandung so it was not really for me.

i liked the goma. very sesame-y and fragrant. but the earl grey doughnut thingy was a surprise selection. aroma of earl grey tea in a cake. and this cake was not overly sweet at all. my favourite among the four with the goma coming in second place.

and worth it indeed.

this hokkien mee is a slightly moist version. the noodles soaked up the flavours really well and it was very enjoyable for me. with a few random pieces of the treasured pork lards, those bites were especially precious and delightful. the sambal was not exactly spicy. i could do with abit more heat so the chilli did not really make an impact on the dish for me.

but the fried shallots did enhanced the dish to a new level. crispy and crunchy, these small bits provided a surprising bite to the otherwise slurpy noodle dish. and i do not even like fried shallots usually. very interesting and well thought finish touch. i would definitely queue for this again.
