The char siu was definitely the star of the show. It as crispy on the outside while remaining tender on the inside without relying on the burnt technique. Noodles were also well seasoned.

Notwithstanding the wait, this was comparatively much better than the queue for the lor mee which was at least two times as long as it was slow.

This must be the first time I'm trying pure buah keluak paste stuffed in the nuts and indeed it's an acquired taste. Might opt for the less buah keluaky chicken option the next time.

Got the Deluxe Bowl ($8), which I think is exactly like the regular bowl ($6/7) except with some additional ingredients. The soup was super unami although the noodles could do with more of a springy bite to them. Overall a good but pricey bowl of noodles. The indoor seating has unenclosed aircon was kinda cramped.

At a reasonable 60c per piece, the chicken and mutton satay was well proportioned with a generous amount of meat. Since my exercise class cancelled I instead went to pig out with congee, Lo Mai Kai and crystal dumplings (total damage for all food in photo was $15), which probably was overkill for 2pax. Lo Mai Kai was recommended as an unusual offering as it is made in house and the rice didn't seem to be the normal sticky glutinous variety. Crystal dumplings were recommended by the stall but I didn't really like the sourness of the sauce. Next time will just stick to the congee which was so smooth it was criminal (bonus that it was not salty too). Fun fact: the friendly owner was the head chef at mouth restaurant before he decided to open up a hawker stall selling his Cantonese fare.

A popular a HDB zichar chain, their hougang outlet also serves funky offerings like collagen soup mookata. We opted instead for an upgraded Crab in Da Bag Imperial Pot (regular $79.90), which probably was the most anticipated dish of the meal. Having had lots of crab lately, I wouldn't say this would rank within my favourites, mainly because the sauce is a confused mod podge of different sauces (curry, tomato, pepper, chilli) that was neither unpleasant nor gratifying. Price is reasonable enough and you get a bagful of different seafood.

The vegetable dishes were ok, but may want to skip the prawns. We ordered the tomato prawns but it was clear that they weren't fresh. 1 ($4.50) in the evening. They ran out of vegetables but this didn't detract from the silky noodles and decadent fried fish dumplings. Apparently opens relatively late which is a great time to try this out thanks to the much shorter queue.
