So, it has been some years since we graduated, and gone were the days when students just had to settle for hostel canteen food. (Hands up if you have experienced being stuck on a school campus from Mondays to Fridays before! 📚🖋️)

Over this weekend when we went back to @JurongPoint, we were impressed by the myriad of retail and dining options now available for residents living in the west and NTU students, one of which is @NjoyDiningHall. A multi-concept dining hall offering various Japanese dishes, it was a fun and casual place to spend an afternoon at.

We tried Sushi-Go for its affordable sushi 🍣, and also liked how it made use of technology to reduce waiting time - from online self-ordering to having our food delivered via the conveyor shinkansen train. One of the crowd-drawers was the ice cream 🍦 claw catcher at the restaurant's entrance. Every S$20 spent gives you one go at the machine! 😀

Happy Monday! Love this heartwarming golden garlic rice I had at Sakae Sushi. It was really flavourful, and look at the generous portion of crabmeat 🦀. 👍

Admittedly, it's been a while since we last visited Sakae Sushi. Their food range has definitely become more extensive after the menu revamp, e.g. this rice and other dishes available at the teppanyaki section. Thanks @Burpple for organising this eat-up! ❤️

Had an enjoyable father-bonding day today at Sentosa. While the rain was a dampener (we had to skip the Pokémon Carnival lol), the highlight was definitely the donburi rice bowl we had.
Specially created by celebrity @Chef_HalYamashita in conjunction with @RWSentosa’s Summer Matsuri event and only available till 30 Jun 2019, this premium donburi included ingredients such as the melt-in-the-mouth wagyu, uni and hotate sashimi. I have to say that it was a treat as my dad is the typical conservative guy who doesn't spend on himself.

Rakuzen has become quite our usual haunt with its set meals that include miso soup, main course, pickled vegetables, chawanmushi and a mini mochi dessert. Here's their pan fried beef, consistently served very succulent and flavourful. Nice! 👍

He took the signature ramen (above) while I tried the other with chicken collagen broth (bottom). It's not common for a ramen outlet to serve its noodles with chicken, but I'm glad Uma Uma did. 🍜

While it was a pity that some of the burnt corn bits left a bitter taste in my mouth at times, the broth was flavourful and light, and really went up my alley. I liked the addition of lemon which gave the ramen an overall citrusy flavour. Interesting!

Btw, only 10 bowls are served daily. Wouldn't mind giving it a try again if I've another chance. 👍

Finally tried this Michelin-rated ramen 🍜 which was recently awarded the 2019 Tokyo Michelin Star and listed on Tokyo Michelin Bib Gourmand 2015-2018.

The restaurant, famous for its clam-based ramen, exclusively offers oyster-based ones at its @GreatWorldCitySG outlet. I heard that the oyster consomme is prepared through hours of slow cooking!

I had the Oyster Paitan Ramen and really liked the flavourful creamy broth. The first mouthful reminded me of creamy pasta - really rich, unlike traditional ramen which usually served in clear broth.
.
Nonetheless, as the oyster paste (the blob that you see on the left side of the bowl) was a little too strong, I didn't quite mix everything in eventually. So I was really thankful for the lemon which added a good citrusy contrast.
.
PS: I topped up S$2++ for the onsen egg. A ramen would just be incomplete without the beautiful half-boiled egg, don't you agree? 🙋♀️

Akashi - my favourite restaurant for steak 🐄🥩 cooked Japanese-style!

The teriyaki marination here is slightly sweet and the beef, being well-marbled, is always very tender and succulent. Highly recommend that it be cooked medium (medium rare is a little too "bloody" for my liking 😅). The set is served with cabbage salad, Japanese rice, miso soup, pickles and watermelon, and is overall very satisfying. Great for one of those special TGIF meals.

A friend commented before that the quality at Akashi is not always very consistent, but I "argued" that the company that we dine with also affects our overall experience too. Who else agrees with me? 🙋♀️

Had this for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised by how flavourful the dish was. A wonderful aroma greeted me when I opened the mini iron pot which encased the kamameshi steamed with various ingredients such as eel, thinly sliced beef and mixed vegetables.

Love that homely feel when I had this and it conjured memories of the familiar Chinese claypot rice. Warm and comforting. 🤗

Finally enjoyed a quiet date together this evening after the many Chinese New Year family gatherings 🍊🍊.

Strangely, we seldom have Japanese food so we decided to have it this time. While my teriyaki chicken seemed a little too salty, his pan fried Kagoshima Wagyu Kinoko Don Set (S$26++) was so good. The thinly sliced beef was really tender and well marinated. Swipe ⬅️ for more photos. So I ended up taking more of his, and he had no choice but to take mine instead haha.
