Not Sad Takeout (curbside)

For those that like their soon kueh skin super thin, give this place a try! I prefer the bamboo shoot version ($2.50) as it has lots of hay bee (dried shrimp) and a more intense taste, but if you prefer less hay bee then go for the turnip version ($1.50). Each box comes with sufficient condiments (chilli and black sauce) - which is my main grouse with the other more purist soon kueh shop that is also trending on social media now.

BTW I'm very spoilt when it comes to soon kueh cos I'm used to eating the ones that my dad brings home from Jakarta when he travels there for work. I find the soon kueh shops in sg all have such THICK and awful skin. Amazing that this noodle-converted-to-kueh shop can outdo all the traditional kueh shops (in my view anyway).

Food court prices with better quality meats. The garlic dip is my favorite as I find the spicy miso too salty. Sets come with soup and kimchi and 200g of meat.

Not exactly curbside but I'm giving this one a Special Mention cos you get a grace period of 15min (?) at the PLQ mall basement carpark which is just enough time to self collect. Sadly, after Phase 2 started, they stopped offering Islandwide delivery via Grab so I have no choice but to self collect since as a solo diner I cannot meet the $35 minimum order on their oddle page.

Since my favorite izakaya is not doing takeaway during lockdown, I have been getting my izakaya fix from Shukuu due to their curbside location (a shop house in Telok Ayer) and reasonable prices. They have a good selection of easy to drink sake, priced around $70+gst. For food, their mentai rosti, kani miso and deep fried squid tentacles are my favorites. Avoid their fried chicken karaage (an izakaya staple) as it is unfortunately sub par.

I always order this dish for brunch, and I'm happy to say it travels really well in takeout form! Just pop the bread in the toaster for a few minutes when you get home and it will be as good as new. If you want you can even give the bone marrow a quick 20s zap in the microwave.

Steamboat kits are the best option for couples and small families as you get variety without food wastage. Also ideal for busy (lazy) people like me who want to save on prep work and avoid crowded supermarkets. This kit starts from $30 for pork, and comes with a soup base and two types of chilli sauces too.

This shop only offers one type of soup so I probably wouldn't order from them again as I prefer a spicy soup base. But if you have more subtle ( sophisticated?) taste buds as most Singaporeans do, then this is a reasonably priced option with fresh and plentiful ingredients.

The. Best. Tart. Ever. This hazelnut chocolate confection looks delicate and pretty from the outside, yet packs a solid punch with dark chocolate ganache inside and a gooey hazelnut praline center. Major love for this neighborhood cafe, that also serves yummy food.

I adore the honey themed food here, so healthy yet tasty! None of that deep fried stuff that are typical to lazy cafes. Of their range of waffle sandwiches, the beef ragu is my favourite as it is slightly spicy from Jalapeños, and includes a sunny side up with perfect flowy yolk. This sandwich is part of the $35.90 Bundle B, which includes a salmon mentai don and two honey drinks, perfect for a couple. When taking out, the waffle is packed separately so that the toppings don't make it soggy.

My neighborhood steakhouse now does bento boxes, perfect for a quick lunch or TV dinner when you're having back to back work calls all day. I like the variety of the bento box, but the full a la carte menu is available as well.

I love that they have unique flavours such as hae bee hiam, bak kwa, beetroot and carrot, in addition to the traditional soon and chives (韭菜) flavors. The skin is unlike typical soon kueh skin, more like 水晶包 skin. The soon kueh also comes frozen if you want to keep it in your feeezer for up to a week and steam it yourself for an instant meal.

One of my regular haunts for their next level baguettes, and I'm glad to see that they were busy with takeaway orders on second day of CB!

Unfortunately the shop was a little squeezy and hectic during lunchtime, and I had to wait about ten minutes even though I ordered in advance and arrived at my indicated time. Also their online oddle shop doesn't haven't the full menu so it's better to WhatsApp your order, but then you have to use the germy nets payment machine. Hopefully they sort out their oddle menu soon.

Ramly-esque patties with tons of dressing, just the way I like my burgers. The quartet (four cheese) is my favorite but the truffle mushroom (pictured) comes a close second with its luxurious truffle smell. Not a big fan of the somewhat artificial tasting mac and cheese though.

Nangfa offers plenty of dishes that travel well in a takeout container ! The seafood glass noodle salad is my go to when I want a simple but satisfying lunch. Goes best with Thai iced tea to wash down the 🌶 .
