One of popular nasi padang stall at Haig Road Food Center. I went with nasi sambal goreng $4.50 which consists of rice, bergedel, paru, fried chicken wing, sambal goreng. It’s a merrier set of nasi sambal goreng compared with other location. You can even ask for curry gravy to put on top of rice. For me, it’s once in a while ordering this as I fully realised it’s not a healthy food to be consumed regularly (fried, lemak, cholesterol).

I quite enjoy their paru the most, it’s tender - well cooked. But their fried chicken wing quite hard and the plastic cutlery given won’t help you much to shredded the meat.

Verdict: decent nasi sambal goreng

Food: 7/10

Expected not to be treated with good customer service and politeness when you deal with the staff who taking orders. Been told to wait 30 mins till it ready the satay is ready.

This was my first time visited Haig Food Center, apparently the hawker seems divided by halal & non halal food row & seating area section. The malay satay stall doesn’t want to deliver your satay if you sit on non-halal food section. The cleaner doesn’t want to clean the tray of halal food if you’re sitting on non-halal sitting area. What a mess, given the Haig food center was totally crowded on weekend. Uncleaned trays & leftover food was left on the table because the cleaner is picky.

When it reached 30 mins I came to pick up my satay, and the staff wasn’t so happy as the satay has been ready for quite a while perhaps. Saw he also rude to one lady who’s going to place satay order.

Now, let’s judge the satay quality itself. I would say the meat was hard. All of three, beef, mutton and chicken. The peanut gravy was in orangey colour and just taste sweet with peanuts tiny chunks inside. I don’t know why this stall if famous for 🤷🏻‍♀️ Even infamous satay stall at Geylang Bahru Food Center near my house taste better.

Verdict: overrated satay stall in most of food guides online.

Satay: 6.5/10

The dish looks promising but not with the taste. I left a feedback to improve the taste to one of the waiter. I’m a good judge when it comes to Indonesian food since I’m Indonesian. The flavour of the fried rice is too far away of what we have in Indonesia. It lack of spices flavour.

However must give a praise for their food presentation. It represent a good variety of items in a portion of fried rice and it looks appealing.

Ohh my husband has long waited for having this in Singapore. It came to Sari Ratu Indonesian Restaurant finally. It’s fantastic as the taste is quite authentic. The meat also tender and the gravy has a kick of spices.

Satay lovers, rejoice!

A lady who constantly in the lookout for a good coffee and always go on adventure to find tasty food
