I thought Gaston was quite a lovely French experience, especially the starter that we shared, the Planche de Charcuterie. This came with Bayonne Ham, Saucisson, Duck Rillettes, and Terrine.
A basket of bread with butter was also served and was the perfect pairing for all that meat. I liked that they were generous with the amount of bread and butter, and that they were happy to refill both throughout our meal.
My favourite on this board has to be the Saucisson because of its simplicity. It isn’t too salty (as some cured meat can be) and it is just beautiful on some generously buttered bread. I wasn’t really a fan of the terrine but I’m not the biggest fan of terrine in general, especially when there’s duck rillettes available.
I like that there is the option for a small board or a large board, depending on how you want to approach your meal - a small board is great if you want to have a main dish each and a large board is good if you want to share everything throughout the meal.
The other dishes we had were lovely as well and the staff were friendly and accommodating of my mum’s allergies and helping us take pictures, as we came to celebrate my dad’s birthday. I’ve already been back twice and will continue to when I’m in the mood for this sort of French experience; charcuterie, bread and butter, good wine, etc.
