Hawker Eats × Curry Rice 咖喱饭 🍛

Traditional Hainanese curry rice located at a corner within an old-school coffee shop. Like a normal cai png stall, we get to choose if we want to have our ingredients placed all together on a plate of curry rice or have them served on separate plates. We ordered the crispy pork chop, tau pok, braised pork belly, stewed cabbage and cereal prawns served with rice dosed with a trio of curry, braised sauce and chap chye gravy.

The crispy pork was a popular choice among diners with almost every table ordering it. It was fried till crispy and it is very addictive. The tender with melty layers of braised pork belly soaked up the braised sauce well that comes with subtle herbal notes. Stewed cabbage was well seasoned and cooked till soft. Another popular item was the crunchy and deshelled cereal prawns that consist of coarse bread crumbs, cereal and egg. All these are best enjoyed with a plate packed with flavours, rich and not overly cloying curry rice 》$17

A simple stall serving curry rice with a good range of variety like fish, chicken, pork and vegetables. Each serving of curry rice is doused with a trio of sauces - signature ayam curry, lor bak sauce and chap chye gravy. There’s even assam curry for those who wish for something spicier.

The curry is mildly spicy, thick and gooey but not overly cloying. It is good enough to have it with plain rice. Add on your choice of ingredients and make it a glorious and satisfying mess for the belly.

A messy plate of rice coated generously with their special curry sauce. Their curry sauce is a mixture of four different sauces - chilli sauce, chilli oil, braised gravy, and curry. The curry gravy is smooth, thick and sticky with a mild spice level.

I got myself chap chye, tau pok, bean sprouts and fish cake. The chap chye was soft and well seasoned while the tau pok is soaked with braised sauce and coated with the curry sauce that makes it so good. The beansprouts together with cubes of tau kwa added more crunch and texture to my plate. The fish cake tasted very normal, not the bouncy type.

This place serves Hainanese curry rice with a wide variety of ingredients. The curry was mild spicy and watery... not that bad but I prefer to have a slightly thicker and spicy curry. Although the queues are usually long, I find that the food here is pretty average but it does provide a very homely and comforting feel.

The standard set comes with a drumstick, cabbage and sunny side up drenched with curry sauce. Added 2 fried prawns to complete my late lunch hunger 😀

Tender and tasty chicken chop with thick curry gravy. The egg was quite oily but overall was good.

Soft and sweet cabbage, tasty okra, tender curry chicken with potatoes and steamed fish. What more can I ask for? Rice with curry and braised soy sauce 😊
