Hawker Eats Γ Lor Bak ζ»·θ π·
As compared to the shank, the pork belly is softer with its layers of lean and fat breaking down under the thick herbal braise gravy. The gravy seeps into the rice, giving each bite a savoury depth. Each bowl comes with a mushroom, egg and greens which bring texture against the richness of the braise and meat γ$5.50
The pork shank is braised until tender with lean and fatty pieces that soaked up the thick herbal braise gravy. The gravy is glossy and savoury, clinging to the rice, giving each spoonful a deep and comforting flavour. Each bowl comes with mushroom, egg and greens which add balance to the richness. For the portion served, it feels value for money, hearty and satisfying for those who enjoy a thick braise. The queue stretches at times but once you dig in, the wait feels worthwhile γ$4.50
This bowl packs a punch. Tender pork jowl with just the right amount of fat, onsen egg with that golden runny yolk and salted veg that cuts through everything with a tangy punch.
The meat-to-rice ratio is generous and itβs melt-in-your-mouth tender with a rich, aromatic braise. The sauce coats every grain nicely, making each bite savoury and satisfying.
It can feel a touch salty midway, so a bit more rice would balance things out. Still, for the portion and price, itβs a steal and a comforting choice γ$5.80
πBraissers Rice Bowl | #02-44
Gravy-soaked rice topped with braised pork belly and toppings such as ajitsuke tamago (ramen egg), pressed tofu (tau kwa), tofu puff (tau pok), shiitake mushroom, black fungus and vegetables served in old-school tin enamel bowl γ$5
The long hours of braising result in a soft and firm braised pork belly which simply melts in your mouth with every bite. The gravy is thick and not salty. Unlike the usual hard-boiled egg, they serve ramen egg over here. This is simply comforting and satisfying but do expect to spend some time queuing for it.
The queue was still acceptable (20 mins) when I was there for breakfast. This bowl of braised pork ribs noodle carries a herbal flavour. The ribs were braised so soft and tender that they fell off the bone easily with the use of chopsticks. Something hearty for breakfast to start off my dayΒ γ$4
A comforting bowl of lor bak rice that comes with chunky pieces of tender pork belly, braised egg and black fungusΒ γ$4
It has a good ratio of meat to fats. Meat is tender, fats just melts in the mouth and black fungus was added to give a different texture and crunch to break away from the richness of the pork belly.
Slow braised for 12 hrs, the meat was so tender that we can easily pull it off. For people like me who doesnβt like too much fats which feels too jelak, this is the right meat dish to go. The amount of fats and skin in this dish is lesser/manageable with no large bones in sight. Not to mention the portion is recommended for sharing and definitely worth the price tag γ$8
Thanks @burpple for the Eatup and Maryanne for hosting.

I'm in a relationship with food. Why can't we just declare our never ending love and vows towards some food item? I'm sure that would not result in divorces.
