Portuguese Egg Tart, $1.80 each. We have always been craving for Macau - Lord Stow’s Portuguese Egg Tart in SG and randomly chanced upon Macau Express at Bedok Town Square! Look pretty alike and it taste pretty yummy too! Crust is crispy, flaky layered filled with soft and smooth custard! It’s so satisfying and addictive, and we couldn’t resist for more! Finger licking goood! .

Really enjoyed the Portuguese egg tarts ($1.80) - the crust is crisp and flaky and the filling is smooth. HK milk tea tasted quite authentic as well!

Other items I got were the noodles (average), baked rice with chicken (a little dry and could have used more curry sauce but sauce was nice), polo bun (with butter).

Overall, it’s a great spot for an afternoon tea at bedok :)

For freshly baked, pipping hot Portuguese egg tarts - certainly authentic if you like the types found in Macau (my preference too!) but not anywhere near the ones in Portugal, in fact, haven't tasted anything similar in Asia ever.

PRICE: $5.80 for fried chicken chop pasta in curry sauce and $2.00 for HK Milk Tea (no GST and service charge)

REMARKS:
- like the quick service
- Milk tea is good, not diluted
- small serving size for pasta

WILL I RETURN? Don’t mind trying the other menu items

One of the best Portuguese tarts In Singapore that I have tasted! Definitely a must eat whenever I visit the mall.

It was quite a disappointment. The cheese is not that rich enough. However the Portuguese tarts and milk tea is highly recommended!!

Quite pricey, but it's worth it! The soft silky smooth egg custard with the crunch of the pastry is so so good!

Chancing upon a small food eatery called Macau Express. My friends and I were planning to eat at Pasta Mania at first, but after looking at their menu, we said what the heck.

Most of us ended up ordering the curry chicken pasta and the black pepper chicken pasta. The pastas came relatively fast, with your personal beeper lighting up to tell you to collect your dish at the counter.

The curry chicken pasta had a good amount of chicken with carrots, green peppers and celery adding colour to plate. A generous helping of curry sauce ladled over top. The pasta was honestly boxed pasta, but chicken and curry sauce, I enjoyed. The sauce wasn't too salty and the chicken was tender.

My score: 6.5/10 🤔

The black pepper chicken pasta, my boyfriend ordered wasn't too bad either. It just wasn't as nice as the curry chicken. I could tell that he wasn't enjoying his meal. I decided to give his a try. The sauce was not peppery enough, and this is coming from someone who doesn't like black pepper. There was a hint of a mushroom taste, which wasn't really helping either.

My score: 5/10 😐

Pasta aside, the shining star of Macau Express are their *drumroll* Portuguese Egg Tarts. Already salivating at the thought of it, I must finish this review before I drool.

We had ordered the egg tarts before our pasta arrived. As we all simultaneously sunk our teeth into the pastry, all you could hear was UMMMM... The pastry was flaky and the egg custard was so fluffy. There was a good ratio of egg custard to pastry. You couldn't even fault it.

As you peer into the glass casing where they display their tarts, you may notice a little note written by the owners. I don't remember the exact words but it came across something like this "Don't judge us by the way we look"

It's not that the egg tarts look bad, they just aren't all similar looking. Some with more caramelization than others. But, hand on heart, they all taste amazing. I would gladly eat the entire try to testify.

Just to demonstrate, how good those tarts were. All of us bought either one or two tarts each before our pasta arrived. After finishing our pasta, we ended up buying more. Amongst 5 of us there, a total of 13 tart devoured on the spot and an extra 5 dabaoed by my friend.

We even waited 20 minutes for the second round as the babies were baking in the oven.
The tarts were fresh out of the oven and still sitting their individual tins. The uncle told us to wait a while before eating as they were really hot.

Let's just say that I ended up with a burnt tongue. It was worth the pain 😛

My score: 9/10 (only because there might be a better tart out there)

So far, I haven't had any better.

@macauexpresssg is well known for their Portuguese egg tarts that they have been making since 20 years ago. Their years of dedication has definitely paid off. Every bite of that Flaky crust with its super smooth filling is bliss. Trust me, it’s really addictive and you won’t be able to stop at one.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

They also sell a range of dishes such as chicken bun, Curry baked rice (tt comes in beef, fish, chicken), baked chicken rice with their special sauce, porridge, wok rice and a lot more…Swipe left for more pics👍🏻
