Learnt about the opening of POUT Rooftop Cafe whilst scrolling around social media; it does seem that POUT Rooftop Cafe is an establishment that is run by the same folks behind LUMO Bar & Restaurant considering how the social media account of POUT Rooftop Cafe does consists of posts that where the now-defunct LUMO Bar & Restaurant was previously tagged. POUT Rooftop Cafe is located within the same building as where LUMO Bar & Restaurant was situated; whilst LUMO Bar & Restaurant was previously located at the ground floor of CMO Building at 50 South Bridge Road, POUT Rooftop Cafe is situated at the sixth floor of the building at its rooftop — lift access to the sixth level of the building can be found at the lift lobby facing at Carpenter Street. Once one reaches the sixth floor of the building, the door leading to POUT Rooftop Cafe is located towards the right; the space is well-lit with natural lighting pouring in — glass windows do offer a glimpse of the view towards the Central Business District, Marina Bay Sands and City Hall all around which allows one to admire the scenes of Singapore’s old colonial past and the modern and ever evolving landscape of the Central Business District. The interior of the space sees the use of a more contemporary style where there is a contrast of colours much as maroon and blue that provides a visual pop against the white walls and floors, as well as the wooden furniture and fitting that one can find within the establishment. There is a small area that is slightly more elevated that features cushioned seating with side tables that allows one to have an unobstructed view out of the windows as well. Most of the dining tables within the establishment are configured to seat two (2) pax to four (4) pax per table; this is with the exception of the counter-facing seating that faces the windows, as well as a table that seats six (6) pax near the entrance to the space. An establishment that serves up a variety of Bakes and Home Made Desserts, there are no hot food items that are being served up at POUT Rooftop Cafe; most of the items listed on the Bakes and Home Made Desserts section of the menu are also displayed prominently in the display case at the counter. Beverages available at POUT Rooftop Cafe includes a line-up of espresso-based specialty coffee, as well as matcha, drinking chocolate, matcha and a coupe of unique concoctions.

One of the items that had caught our attention whilst skimming through the food menu at POUT Rooftop Cafe was the Brulee Basque Cheesecake — this would be an item on the menu that is being listed under the Home Made Desserts section of the menu where one can also find other items such as the Matcha Cheesecake and the Tiramisu. The menu at POUT Rooftop Cafe does not describe the elements that comes with the various offerings that they serve up; that being said, it can be observed from our order of the Brulee Basque Cheesecake that the item does come with a layer of caramalised sugar that has been flame-torched (and therefore the mention of “Brulee” in its namesake) above the basque cheesecake, while the basque cheesecake also comes served with Greek yogurt on the side. Whilst spiritually similar to that of the variant of the Basque Cheesecake that Queic by Olivia serves up on paper, the Brulee Basque Cheesecake at POUT Rooftop Cafe is still vastly different — for one, the Brulee Basque Cheesecake here isn’t quite as molten; though it does still come smooth, creamy and velvety that is sufficiently rich. Whilst the layer or caramalised sugar adds a crackling crisp texture over the top, it also does provide a hint of sweetness that compliments the inherent notes of the cheesecake; the Greek yogurt does pair up with the cheesecake pretty nicely with a consistent texture — all that whilst adding a slight tang that helps to cut through the heaviness of the Brulee Basque Cheesecake to reset the tastebuds.

Wanting to also try something savoury that POUT Rooftop Cafe has to offer, we went for the Arabiki Chicken Danish — the Arabiki Chicken Danish is observed to come with elements such as cheese and Arabiki Chicken sausage that is sliced into half; all that sitting atop a French danish. The Danish itself was light and crisp with a buttery hint of flavours that lingers at the back of the tastebuds; not too greasy as well, while the use of Arabiki Chicken over that of chicken franks or regular chicken sausage helps to provide a meatiness to the Danish without causing the entire pastry to become overly salty — a plus point considering how the Arabiki Chicken Danish does come with cheese as well. Whilst the Arabiki Chicken Danish sees cheese being shaved atop it for an added note of savouriness, we did note the use of a stronger tasting cheese within the Danish itself underneath the Arabiki chicken that provides a slightly more fuller flavour that rounds things off slightly better for a savoury food item. Opting for a cuppa to pair up with the pastries that we had ordered during our visit to POUT Rooftop Cafe, we went for the White (Hot) — POUT Rooftop Cafe does offer their patrons with two (2) choices of beans for their espresso-based specialty coffee offerings, and we found ourselves going for the Sunbird which is a blend of beans originating from Ethiopia, Brazil and Laos. The Sunbird blend is described to be the one coming with a darker, nuttier and earthier flavour profile and it does seem to be showcased here in the White (Hot); one that features a medium body and comes with sufficient kick of caffeine for a good perk-me-up cuppa. POUT Rooftop Cafe does occupy quite a unique spot on its own — the beautiful views and the laid-back vibes are already a draw for one to drop by the establishment just to check it out; combined with the well-executed Bakes and Home Made Desserts that they have to offer, POUT Rooftop Cafe does simply feel like a spot that is an absolute pleasure to be able to soak oneself in for a relaxing cuppa as a quiet spot amidst the busy city that it is being situated in. With the various Bakes and Home Made Desserts that they have to offer being priced from $7 to $9, this makes them a reasonably-priced spot that is definitely worth making the visit especially for cafe-hoppers at least one to check out what they are all about!
