Got to learn about the existence of Sizzling 喜滋滋 whilst scrolling through social media on the phone one day — these folks are likely a spot that one would probably not come across unless one stays within the Tengah neighbourhood. Sizzling 喜滋滋 is located within Tengah Bus Interchange; these folks occupy a space that is tucked right towards the end of the bus interchange away from the alighting berths. One thing that stands out about Sizzling 喜滋滋 is how they are quite unlike most F&B establishments that occupy shop units within bus interchanges elsewhere — for one, the store facade is already decked in an attention-grabbing red which is also contrasting against the other shops. Occupying a fairly small space, it is noted that more than half of the shop is being taken up by the food preparation area and the self-service ordering kiosk that is located right beside the entrance; the interior of the space being decked more for function but still tastefully designed to provide a bright and vibrant dining environment for its patrons. There are only three (3) two-seater dining tables for dine-in patrons at Sizzling 喜滋滋. Sizzling 喜滋滋 does mention “Black Pepper Wrap” on its signboard; the food menu at Sizzling 喜滋滋 is broadly separated into Wraps and Snacks, while beverages available at Sizzling 喜滋滋 would include a variety of iced Jasmine Green Teas and coffee.

Considering how there is the mention of “Black Pepper Wrap” on the signage at the store facade here, it is needless to say that we found ourselves going for the Black Pepper Chicken Wrap during our visit to Sizzling 喜滋滋 — it is worth noting that they also do offer a variant of the same featuring beef instead of chicken as well being the Black Pepper Beef Wrap. Sizzling 喜滋滋 does not describe about the elements that come with any of their items, though it can be observed from our order that it does come with the usual tortilla wrap and comes with elements such as shredded cabbage, diced chicken drenched in black pepper sauce and melted cheese. The Black Pepper Beef Wrap does seem to be prepared on the spot — served piping hot and wrapped in waxed paper. Digging into the wrap, we were already in awe with how the wrap comes toasty with a good crisp and a chewiness without feeling like it was made soft and soggy from the wet elements that comes wrapped within. The diced chicken chunks were reasonably moist and tender; all coated with the black pepper sauce which comes with a savoury note. Unlike the black pepper sauces that are being served up by western cuisine stalls situated within coffeeshops / hawker centres / food courts, we liked how the black pepper sauce here wasn’t overwhelmingly spicy and was one that felt very well-rounded to allow patrons to taste all of the elements within the wrap at its best. The addition of melted cheese does provide that satisfying stretchy and oozy cheese pull whilst also binding all of the elements together — also adds a slight savouriness to the wrap.

We also managed to try the Sizzling Fries (Small) during our visit to Sizzling 喜滋滋; the Sizzling Fries would be simply crinkle-cut fries which are fried to a golden-brown hue — very crispy and not too greasy, while it does come with a saucer filled with chili powder where one can dab the fries for a slight hint of spiciness to go along. Meanwhile, the Green Grape Jasmine Green Tea was a beverage that seemed to have focused more on the sweetness of the green grape concoction whilst carrying a very light hint of Jasmine Green Tea in its finish — there are also bits of Aloe Vera included for something to chew on. Interestingly, it is noted that the Green Grape Jasmine Green Tea that we have had does come without ice by default. We weren’t initially having not much of an expectation for the food at Sizzling 喜滋滋 — this is especially so since most dining establishments situated in bus interchanges around the island exists more for its function as an eatery rather than for being a gastronomical experience that is worth making the trip for; mostly just very uninspiring locations to eat at. It does seem that Sizzling 喜滋滋 does seem to break away from this mould however — makes for quite an interesting option to dine at especially given how well-executed their wraps are. We also did note that they do seem to be well-patronised by bus captains as well. It is a little pity how Sizzling 喜滋滋 is located at the furthest end of Tengah for now; Tengah Bus Interchange being located a few bus stops away from Plantation Plaza which can be considered as the main hub of Tengah — this makes Sizzling 喜滋滋 a little difficult to get to considering the limited bus services and the lack of train connectivity to Tengah at this current juncture; but we do reckon that we would certainly be craving for their wraps now that we have had one. Looking forward to the time when these folks hopefully expand their footprint across the island further; these folks would certainly do well if they manage to maintain the quality of food if they ever open in the Central Business District!
