One of my favourite tonkatsu restaurants in Singapore. Pork cutlet is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, coated with miso sauce that is neither overly sweet or salty. Top it up with free-flow salad, miso soup and rice, and you are sure to have enough to fill your stomach for $22++! Go for the rosu katsu if you want more fats in the meat; otherwise you can try the hire katsu if you prefer the meat to be lean!

Had the ebi patty. Not a huge fan of tonkotsu, since it gets dry and plain tasting fairly quickly. Good quality rice, delicious miso soup. Food was pretty expensive.

Because of the extra layer of fat above the succulent pork, the Rosu Katsu (pork loin) is suitable for those looking for a juicier bite!

I especially loved that the batter was crunchy without being oily!

Prices are not cheap but you pay for quality! Each set comes with ‼️FREE FLOW‼️ cabbage, miso soup & rice.

For a leaner cut, the Hire Katsu (pork fillet) is tender & easy to chew. Not forgetting the pair of huge, juicy prawns which deserves an equal amount of love🍤🍤

Both batters were crunchy without being oily, colour me impressed!

So far, I have only tried 2 tonkatsu specialized restaurants in Singapore. One being Tonkichi @ Takayshimaya and another being Ma Maison @ Mandarin Orchard. I would say Ma Maison would be the better of the two, with both in the same price range.

Ma Maison @ Mandarin Orchard has the fresher and more juicy cuts of the pork. We also tried their fried oyster, it’s super good, must-try! They are also very generous with small food items such as free flow rice, tea, condiments and complimentary desserts. Accompanied with a very serene and classy atmosphere, I just say this outlet would be my fave out of all. The service is also top-notched and professional. Ya know, overall just makes you feel like a queen and king walking out of the (fine-dining kinda) restaurant. Satisfactory!

Ma Maison’s Oyster and Rosu Tonkatsu set seems healthier than most other Tonkatsu(s) around Singapore but we don’t love it any less.

Yes, you have the deep-fried crispy goodness from the crumbly panko exterior. Yes, you have that chunky strip of fat along the side of the leaner pork loin.(MY FAVOURITE OBVIOUSLY) Yes, you also get the juicy yet gooey flavours of oyster in your mouth too.

What sets it apart from others is the fact that it gives you the option of brown rice over the usual Japanese white rice, refreshing for a try-hard health junkie like myself.

The Tonkatsu sauce was mostly sweet but equally well-balanced by its salty and sour tastes too, slightly better than its counterparts from many other joints.

Their Tonkatsu sets are served together with refillable sides of Japanese pickles, cabbage and their notable miso soup, which reminded me more of a hearty Tonjiru soup than anything.
