Was scrolling around the phone and got to know about the existence of the new Yes! Dessert Club that seemed to have opened its doors fairly recently in the Woodlands neighbourhood — Woodlands itself having seen a number of rather hipster additions in the past number of years considering how the neighbourhood had seen the addition of establishments such as the likes of Quasont. in recent times. Yes! Dessert Club is located within Woodlands Mart which is a short bus ride away from Admiralty MRT Station; the cafe isn’t exactly one that is visible from the main road considering how its entrance faces a shopping aisle within the neighbourhood mall itself — the shop unit in which Yes! Dessert Club occupied being diagonally opposite from the outlet of McDonald’s there. The space in which Yes! Dessert Club is actually rather spacious; whilst the interior is simply designed with the use of grey walls and white walls matched with simple dining furniture, there is a contrast of colours within the establishment that sees pastel yellow being used to provide a more joyful visual appeal to the entire space which also employs the use of wooden furniture and fitting for a cosy vibe. Dining tables are configured in a manner that would suit patrons visiting the establishment in pairs or in groups of four (4) pax. One can also find a number of illustrations of the items that they have to offer being pasted on the wall in an attempt to spruce up the space. There are some cues within the establishment through the menus and the dining ware used that seems to suggest a possible connection between Yes! Dessert Club with Y Dessert that is situated at 888 Plaza — also in Woodlands. Apart from offering patrons a variety of shaved ice and local-style Tang Shui offerings, Yes! Dessert Club also offers a range of ice-creams which are prominently displayed in the display fridge located at the counter; one can opt for it to come in a cup, or to be paired with a waffle. It also seems that Yes! Dessert Club is also jumping onto the ongoing trend of matcha beverages, with different variants of matcha beverages being the only drinks offered on the menu.

Skimming through the menu at Yes! Dessert Club, we decided to go for the Durian Chendol which is listed as an item under the YES! Summer Essentials section of the menu. For those whom dislike durian, Yes! Dessert Club also offers the Chendol (i.e. the version of the dessert without durian) in the same section of the menu as well. Yes! Dessert Club does not describe the elements that come with their dessert offerings on its menu; that being said, it can be observed from our order that the Durian Chendol does come with elements such as Chendol Jelly, Grass Jelly, Gula Melaka, Coconut Milk, Shaved Ice, Palm Seeds (i.e. Attap Chee), Durian Mousse and Red Beans — pretty much the usual suspect when it comes to the various renditions of the same dish that is being served elsewhere apart from Grass Jelly. The shaved ice for the Durian Chendol does come with an even consistency throughout the entire bowl, though we did feel that the dessert could do with a little bit more drizzle of coconut milk that would further provide a stronger fragrance and a bit more depth of flavours for the dessert. That being said, the entire bowl didn’t come across as too sweet nor jelak; the Chendol Jelly being easy to chew through while the Grass Jelly carrying a bit of a firmer bite. The red beans does add a hint of earthy sweetness, while the scoop of durian mousse does provide a pungent, sweet and buttery flavour and fibrous texture to the entire dessert.

We also managed to settle for the Coconut Milk with Mango which is also an item that is listed under the YES! Summer Essentials section of the menu just like the Durian Chendol that we had mentioned earlier. It can be observed that the Coconut Milk with Mango comes with elements such as sago, shaved ice, mango chunks and coconut milk — a much simpler composition as compared to the Durian Chendol. Again, the shaved ice does come with an even consistency just like it was the case with the Durian Chendol; that being said, it does come with ample coconut milk that provides a hint of fragrance that runs throughout the entire bowl of dessert. The sago does add a bit of a chewiness for a texture contrast against the soft cubes of mango that comes all naturally sweet. The folks at Y Dessert and Yes! Dessert Club did definitely see a potential within the deeper heartlands within Woodlands considering the lack of such dining options within Woodlands for quite a while — Yes! Dessert Club can be described as a bit of an extension of the Y Dessert brand, integrating the concept of an ice-cream parlour with that of their standard shaved ice offerings and local-style Tang Shui offerings which they serve up ever since their days situated within a laundromat in Buangkok Square. Their offerings aren’t the best, though they are respectable at the level of quality that they come in. Providing the residents of Woodlands with a cosy spot serving up desserts catering to families and youngster looking for a slightly more hipster / indie spot to catch-up, Yes! Dessert Club would probably be an establishment that is appreciated by the folks residing around the neighbourhood in time to come!
