Duck Rillettes . | The second best dish we had. The duck rillettes can be spread like a butter on the toasty bread. One after another, we couldn't stop until everything was gone! For a duck lover like myself, this is the dish which I must try.

Braised beef cheek in red wine and mushroom. . | Totally melt in the mouth. Something that I love about braised beef cheek was the soft tendon hidden within the cheek. It melted like butter and maximum flavors. Nothing could beat the combination of mashed potato and beef cheek. Hundred percent comfort food.

Kimchi Sourdough There is always a long queue at Woodlands Sourdough after my pilates class so I was naturally rather curious about this hole in the wall bakery in the Thomson area and decided to check them out one morning when the queue was mercifully short. For such a small space, I am constantly surprised by the amount and variety of pastries they churn out. Kimchi and sourdough seem to be mismatch as they are both fermented ingredients. Surprisingly though the tangy kimchi and the subtly sweet and moist sourdough paired rather well. I also loved that they topped the pastry with scallions whose raw peppery flavour balanced the sour notes of the kimchi and sourdough. I did find it rather pricey and a little niche for a neighbourhood bakery and sourdough is kinda a love it or hate it thing. That said, they seem to be doing rather well!

𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗮 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗯𝗸𝗮 𝟰 🍵🍞 We’ve always been curious about babkas, especially after watching vids of beautifully braided babkas in the past. This was their new babka flavour and we were stoked since it was matcha and black sesame <3! Unfortunately, the matcha flavours were overshadowed by the sourdough base and we wouldn’t have known it was matcha if not for the colour. The black sesame swirl however, was pleasantly nutty and sweet, a breakthrough from just eating sourdough bread, but we do wish they were more generous with it.

Sticky Cinnamon Bun ($2.50) “Ugly Delicious” - ugly photo, of which I take full blame of but delicious sticky cinnamon bun. In fact this is (IMHO) the best cinnamon bun in Singapore because it’s simple (no cream cheese fan fare needed) yet so gratifying 🥹 Fresh soft white bun with just enough sticky cinnamon syrup ✨

Go-to breakfast place! Good sandwiches, breakfast plates and cinnamon buns.

White Orb White Orb ($15) . Impressed by this creation @SanBistrosg . Warm white chocolate sauce is poured over the white chocolate sphere containing matcha ice-cream, raspberry jelly and feuilletine. The bitterness from the matcha ice cream balances the sweetness characteristic of white chocolate and the tangy sour taste from the raspberry jelly. My preferred choice of dessert of the 4 available.

Linguine Lobster Linguine Lobster ($35) . When I was served the linguine lobster @SanBistrosg , I must confess my disappointment. There were probably 4-5 pieces of lobster flesh and a teenie dollop of caviar hidden among the moderate size of pasta. The consolation was that the flavour was present with the lobster bisque thickly coating the pasta and the lobster flesh tasting fresh. Maybe if the lobster flesh was served with its shell, it would have looked a little more presentable and worth the money paid.

Foie Gras Terrine Foie Gras Terrine ($20) . Revamped menu @SanBistrosg serves up this wellplated Foie Gras Terrine that’s accompanied by golden beets, caramelized hazelnut, brioche and beetroot paper! The foie gras terrine with the brioche paired well but I am not a fan of the beetroot and beetroot puree as the earthy bitter taste was very evident and overshadowed the rest of the elements even when I combined all the elements into one spoonful.

Unethical and overpriced Every time I come here, I will be sure to just order the basic $4.50 porridge and not add on. Their add on prices are crazy expensive and they don’t advertise it. Add You Tiao: $3. Debone your fish $3.

Perfect for rainy days! Chilly weather warranted warm comforting meals and that's how we found ourselves at Ah Chiang's Porridge, a street corner establishment in the cosy Tiong Bahru neighbourhood. Slightly surreal to see Teslas and Porsches and whatnot parked by a porridge store but they made for good scenery. Had the Mixed Pork Porridge ($4.50), Century Egg Sliced Pork Porridge ($5.50), Sambal Kangkong ($10), and a Soybean drink - total came up to $25.20. The porridge was oh so smooth and comfortingly delicious. Liver was the standout here, perfectly cooked with a soft and almost bouncy texture. Kangkong might seem pricey but portion was huge, enough for at least 3. Will return to eat more of the liver!

Sliced pork porridge Decent porridge but would prefer them not to pour the soy sauce into the porridge. They also serve deep fried wantons for $8 which I find it’s quite pricey.
