If you're craving for carbs and something sweet, this is the dish to have at Botanist. The first time I visited the cafe, I wasn't very impressed with their Chef Menu items we tried, but after trying this, I now think that they serve at least average cafe food. This plate is without a doubt pretty, but I guess the French Toast was a bit too dry and too much for me even with the ice cream. Guess I like my French Toast soaked and creamy on the inside or at least fluffy and less dense. The berries and sauce were ok. Nothing mind blowing, but filling. I would probably order this again if I was craving something sweet, as the berries are rather refreshing. The coffee here is good. π

Check out this new set for two people on SEORAE's menu. It features a huge Korean hot pan of Cheese Mandu Tteokbokki + Three BBQ Meats.
Protein-lovers will undoubtedly drool over the juicy trio of "Woorsamgyeob" (US beef shortplate cut marinated with special sauce), "Samgyeobsal" (spicy pork belly) and the "Galmaegisal" (the signature premium lean yet superbly tender pork skirt meat). Do note the best way to enjoy the pork is to dunk it in the hot, gooey melted cheese.
Sweet and spicy, the very hearty Cheese Mandu Tteokbokki is a riot of chewy Korean rice cake, egg, fried fish cake, ramyeon and pineapple partying away in hot sauce. On the rim of the pan sits a few corn-cheese dumplings that look like mini curry puffs that've been stuffed with a sweetish creamy corn filling. This was an unexpected hit with us all too.

From the same guys behind Penny University, this Muslim-owned cafe in Tampines West Community Club draws the crowds for its comforting fusion cafe fare and affordable prices β perfect for family meals. With exposed ceilings and long wooden benches, its setting is industrial chic without being too in-your-face about it, making for really laidback vibes. If it's your first time here, go for the Butcher's Daughter ($14) on the weekend brunch menu (available on weekends, 9am to 5pm). The generous piece of seared sous vide steak, cooked well and served with fluffy scrambled eggs and crispy fries, makes for a tasty protein-rich plate. Alternatively, try the Moroccan Baked Eggs ($12). Mixed through with beef, the dish is flavourful, with a good kick of spice, and the sourdough on the side is made for mopping up all that delicious gravy. Tummies filled, sit back and sip on a cup of Jaffa Orange Mocha ($6) or the Spiked Muddy Espresso ($6.50) that comes sweetened with gula Melaka.

This stall at Chinatown Complex Market and Food Centre owns the title as the most pocket-friendly Xiao Long Bao stall amongst our Burpple community! Come with your colleagues after work and order a few sets of Xiao Long Bao ($5.50 for 10). As you wait, grab a seat nearby to watch them work their magic as they knead, stuff and fold the soup dumplings like clockwork. The translucent thin-as-paper dumpling skin traps hot soup inside, so don't be too eager to pop them right into your mouth. Another must-order is the Hong You Chao Shou ($4.50 for 10) that Burpple Tastemaker Michelle Kayla Tey strongly endorses β velvety smooth pork and prawn dumplings doused in a piquant reservoir of red chili oil and black vinegar!
