Shiraae (included in $250++ kaiseki dinner). This was first taken during Chef Akane's kaiseki dinner conducted at Sushi Kimura. But her own restaurant is opening soon, so keep a lookout for good news coming our way soon! 🔸 Pictured is Japanese fig with Shine Muscat and Tofu Sauce. The thick, rich texture with strong flavours from fig, was balanced by grapes to lighten the consistency.

Uni, Ikura & Egg Rice Bowl And finally, this glorious dish which will occupy my foodie daydreams in the next few days. Watching the chef prepare it was magical as well; he whisked together organic eggs, ikura and a generous helping of uni together in a large bowl. Then scooped it over rice and crowned it with a bit of negitoro and wasabi. How to describe the umami that exploded in my mouth in that first bite. The creaminess from the uni and then the richness of the egg yolks, with the ikura popping in my mouth and the rice absorbing all that goodness. I just leaned back and took it all in. And then there's the slight whiff of melt-in-your-mouth tuna in the background with the wasabi just tying all the intense flavors together. Even the portion size was perfect; although my taste buds were screaming with pleasure any more would have been too jelak.

Grilled Hotate This is a freakishly large piece of scallop. It was also freakishly good. The hotate was grilled over charcoal, and then lightly smeared with soy sauce and tucked into a piece of nori and handed to me by the friendly Japanese chef piping hot. Its so delightfully sweet, succulent and tender. It was a bit too hot at first, steaming at first bite, but it was a lovely showcase of the quality of Japanese seafood. I couldn't discern any seasoning besides the soy sauce on the scallop; and it didn't need it, so flavorful and perfect it was on its own. Even the nori played a part as a contrasting crunchy vessel in this symphony of deliciousness.

| 🍰 Melt My Cheesecake!... ~ · Burnt Cheesecake - $7.50 · I was rather hyped to try their burnt cheesecake which should have a semi-molten texture, but after waiting for 20mins outdoor, the cheesecake remains well-built, small disappointment I must say. It’s said to be made up of 4 type of cheese, and they also have a Pandan version for this CNY period, limited time only. Their Tiger Cruffin ($6) is quite unique as well, which is a burnt cheesecake croissant that’s shaped like muffin, worth a try · Keong Saik Bakery @keongsaikbakery

Two Face Burnt Cheesecake🍵 📍Keong Saik Bakery📍 💸Two Face Burnt Cheesecake: $8.50 ... Been here a couple of times for their bread and it’s our first time trying their cake!! The half original, half matcha cheesecake didn’t exactly have a burnt taste🤔but there is a good balance of matcha and cheese☺️ Also, most people are there for their bread which taste pretty good- had their bacon & egg bagel, nonya curry chicken, butter char siew and more but maybe they can be a little more generous with their filling😂

Tbvh, kinda Overhyped Finally caved in to trying the Two Faced (~$8) cheesecake and matcha burnt cake after seeing it everywhere on insta 🧀🍵 . Maybe it was because I had too high expectations from the reviews, but I wasn’t as impressed as I expected to be. Although it looked burnt, the cheesecake didn’t taste burnt much — I preferred the burnt taste of the cheesecake at The Kins. . The mix of cheesecake and matcha could have been done better: the cheesecake overpowered the matcha too much and I ended up having to separate both layers to appreciate each taste. Though disappointed at this mismatch, each individual flavour was well done; especially the matcha 🍵 Ig @goodfomood

Salted Peanut Butter Crunch Some food you don’t even need to taste it to know you’ll like it. Such is the name of this bun at Bread & Hearth. We were so keen to try the various offerings at the bakery including its signature croissant, quiche, scone, super soft ciabatta sandwich. I had to wait till my second visit before trying this awesome bun! Be warned, It’s loaded with peanut butter.

Bread & Hearth 26/07/19 Cinnamon Bun ($2.90) - Fluffy and moist bun - Not overly sweet but would have preferred more cinnamon glaze and cream cheese frosting on top - Tangy cream cheese frosting, complementing the sweet cinnamon filling - Layers of cinnamon filling within the bun's interior Overall, huge comforting cinnamon bun that is not cloyingly sweet. Price: 8.5/10 (For the portion size, this is actually quite value-for-money) Taste: 9/10 Overall: 9/10 (Must-try over here) Currant Cream Scone ($3.40) - 'With rum soaked raisin' Crunchy and sweet exterior, but this scone was even denser and drier than the one at Bake Of. The saving grace would be its sweet cinnamon sugar crust. Price: 6/10 Taste: 5.5/10 Overall: 5.5/10 (There's definitely better things to try here) Almond Chocolate ($3.80) - Very crunchy and strong notes of almond in the almond cream crust - Loads of semi-sweet chocolate filling within - Buttery, moist and fluffy puff pastry Overall, a very rich and hearty pastry; Very guilty to eat but very satisfying Price: 7/10 (Average price) Taste: 9/10 Overall: 8/10 More pictures at: https://www.instagram.com/p/B0p6PiOgb_A/?igshid=1c6jj3ljkz5b5

Pecan Cranberry Bread And Flat White A little disappointed with the weak flat white. Diluted and thin . Pecan and cranberry bread was ordinary although cited as the shop’s signature bread . Go for their pastries like the croissant 🥐 instead and skip the coffee .

Matcha Latte ($7) Matcha flavour is mild in Baker & Cook’s matcha latte. Okay for a quick fix, but there’re other places nearby that serve up better matcha lattes. Did like the small brownie cube provided to go along with their beverages, which was chocolatey and soft.

Cappuccino (Regular, $5.80 + $1 Soy Milk) My strongest impression of this cuppa is the extremely thick and creamy foam layer. It’s also dusted with cocoa powder - yums! The coffee taste is quite strong in this one and it felt like the milk-coffee ratio was skewed. Overall still not bad!

Chocolate Lamington ($5.80) & Chocolate Almond Croissant ($4.30) Chocolate Lamington was like a crumbly chocolate cake coated with dessicated coconut. While it was soft, the cake was on the dry side. We did appreciate that the chocolate flavour was prominent and that the lamington was not just chocolate-coloured. The chocolate almond croissant was served slightly warm which melts the chocolate filling and really helps increase enjoyment of this pastry. The croissant texture here can’t hold a candle to the airy, crisp, flaky likes of Mother Dough or OMC, but I appreciated the generous amounts of molten chocolate filling and almond slices. Even though there’s no marzipan filling, I’d choose this chocolate croissant over Mother Dough’s anytime due to the amount of chocolate inside. However, OMC’s is a clear winner in this category. Still nice to pick up if you’re craving a quick bite as Baker & Cook is conveniently located in Bugis Junction!

Whole White Chicken This place is still the best hands down. To be honest, I don’t patronize this place for their chicken, but for the black and pepper soup that they serve as part of additional service. If you order more than half a chicken, they’ll give you both types of soups and they are really good. The meat in the soups are substantial and really well cooked. The broth is flavorful and very comforting. The chicken and rice itself is above the average of what you’ll find in singapore. And the standards are consistent EVERYTIME I come, which is rare for such a popular establishment.

We got here before 5.30pm today before the queue quickly grew thereafter. Although just chicken rice, meal here was such a complete one with free soup and achar. The chicken was good, although we won’t say it was the best we had. Steamed chicken was definitely the better than the roasted one. The roasted pork was pretty good too, chunky with the crispy skin. The crunchy fried garlic on their meat was definitely a good move, adding fragrance and the extra bite. Although some would like their yellowish rice which was non-oily, we actually kinda missed an oilier but more fragrant rice. While the prices here might not be that economical, the free soup and achar kinda mitigated that to complete the meal. For fans of achar, their free-flow supply would be a great joy. And the soup was such a gem. Free but it came with pork ribs and the peppery soup was delicious like the pig stomach soup. Lastly, we enjoy all their condiments and the chilli that packed a kick. With so many plus points, it was no doubt this was such a popular choice.

Unconventional Western Food Located at an unsuspecting end of pasir ris central hawker centre, lies wild olives where you’ll see snaking queues at any time of the day. Looking at the queue of about 8 people, I quickly joined the queue thinking that it would move quite quickly, however, I was wrong. The stall has a system of taking an order and making that order individually before moving on to take the next person’s order and this inefficient system is why the queue was moving at snail’s pace. Nonetheless, that didn’t faze me, and it took 30 min before I could finally place my order. The preparation of food was pretty fast and we only had to wait around 3 min. Their grilled chicken was moist and tender unlike the conventional grilled chicken we get from other places that tend to be dryer. I love the signature mushroom rice which was super fragrant and appetising especially with the generous amount of onions that they added. The herb roasted potato wedges were also pretty well seasoned however, it did get a little too ‘jelak’ for my liking after a few wedges. You also get a bowl of pumpkin soup for just additional $1, which is super worth btw! Overall, I can see why this inconspicuous stall is extremely popular with the crowds. They take conventional western foods and added their own flare to it, which turned out surprisingly well! It’s also super value for money considering the generous portions and quality of food. I would be back again if not for the long queues I have to conquer first! Taste: 7/10 Presentation: 7.5/10

Wild Olives Best hawker western food with extremely affordable prices. Below $7, you get a main dish with 2 side dishes. Our favorite side dishes are the mushroom rice and herbed potatoes. Add a $1 and you get a soup of the day! Best western food and the long queues are testament to the quality of the food!

Sirloin Steak Medium steak was good. But the queue to wait is not worth it. About 45-60mins of waiting time on average.

Ala Cart & 2-3 People Platter ($65) We decided to go for a 2-3 person platter ($65) and create our own favourite second platter. We have added Smoked Buffalo Wings ($8), 350g Angus Short Ribs ($42.35), 100g Angus Brisket Plate ($12.98), 100g Carolina Pulled Pork($12.40), Sweet Potato Fries ($8), Bone Marrow Butter Mashed Potato ($8) onto our platter that consist Brisket Plate, Pork Belly, Smoked Chicken, Pork Ribs, Sausage & Wings w/ Roasted Vegetable and Mashed as our Sides. _ I’m a beef eater so I went straight to the brisket as I was craving from my US visit since December and I love it! It was tender with good amount of fats and perfectly charred! AND the short ribs were to die for, the tender juicy soft meat literally fall off the bone without any fork and knife, it’s the best I had for the night. This is a perfect restaurant for a group gathering, perfect barbecue with affordable price point. 👍🏻 _ Overall Experience: Price Point - 10/10, Food - 9/10, Ambience - 8/10
