Third time here and each time their standard worsens. I was thrilled to see a grill and bar opening up near my place and given its crowd, I had high expectations.

First time around, the experience was pleasant. The salmon as promised, came slightly pink in the middle and the steak with well-cooked. My second experience, food was still enjoyable albeit slightly bland.

My last visit was by far the worst — they came up with a policy that Burpple redemptions could not have any add ons and when we wanted to add on to a main not under redemption, they mentioned that they usually have a house rule of “no more than 2 sides”. Firstly, it was not written anywhere and secondly, you’re stopping someone from ordering more sides they’re paying for? Weird and unheard of.

We ordered the Chicken Leg ($15), Salmon ($18) and Flambé Lamb ($30) in which we claimed Burpple for the Chicken dish. Chicken was tough, dry and utterly bland it’s as though they skipped on seasoning it entirely. Salmon’s portion was ridiculously tiny and shrunk significantly from my previous 2 visits. Although we requested for it to come pink in the center, it turned out overcooked and not surprisingly, tasteless.

If you’d think there was any redemption for the lamb dish, I’m sorry to disappoint. Requesting for its doneness to be medium, we sliced into 1 which was severely over cooked and beyond tough. They returned it to the chef who mentioned 2 pieces were over cooked and would have it redone for us. After waiting for another 20 minutes, it came with the same overcooked piece we sliced into. I was puzzled. How could you overcook it, promise to redo it and yet return us the same slice? The other 2 pieces were still overdone, sinewy and tough. It was also like the other dishes — bland and extremely oily. Paying a total of $38 for that plate was a complete waste and disappointment.

We gave our feedback but they did not seem to seriously receive it. It’s tough to say when I would be back to give them another try however I hope that if I do come back, they could very much redeem themselves.

Ordered the small sized pork and prawn porridge [$5] and four treasures (flower crab, prawn, clam and yellow eel) porridge [$10]. Added century egg [$1] and normal egg [$0.50].

Can’t really taste the seafood flavor in the porridge and hence was slightly disappointed. The pork and prawn porridge fared much better in terms of value and flavor as I didn’t feel the crab, clam or eel added any boost of flavor.

Would recommend for a hearty and filling meal as my partner and I had trouble finishing the entire portion. However, might not come back unless in the area.
Do note this is teochew style and hence rice grains and still rather intact; you won’t receive a thick, smooth congee consistency here.

Ordered negitoro chirashi don ($17.80) and truffle bara chirashi don ($17.80). Both were large in size with huge chunks of salmon, tuna and swordfish sashimi. I requested for mine to be aburi-ed and service staff gladly consented. It came exactly as requested and even better as quantity of sashimi were phenomenal. It was also really fresh and of excellent quality. It also came with tamago slices/cubes,cucumber and tobiko.

Truffle bara chirashi was really tasty and you could really smell the truffle smell when it was served which shows that they weren’t stingy with the truffle sauce poured over. Definitely recommend their Kaisen dons as it’s really worth it for the price and quality! Sure to make you full.

Ordered the unagi maki ($15.80) which was alright, although the slices of unagi were quite thin and overall, tasted very rice-y because of the proportion of ingredients to rice. However, still not bad for the size and price! Might try other maki flavors in future though.

We also ordered edamame ($3) which came steaming hot and fresh, tossed with a good amount of salt. Really good appetizer to go along with our dons and add a side of crunch.

Highly recommend hitoyoshi and will definitely be back!

Horrible don - quantity + quality of sashimi was bad and they covered the rice with diced up crab meat to try and mask how little sashimi they were giving! Waited approx 30 mins for the don although we were the first ones in the restaurant during lunch.

Ordered the signature maki roll and it was the smallest, plainest maki I have ever seen and cost $22! Really overpriced and can’t see the quality at all.
Salad bar was pathetic with 5-6 choices of mundane choices.

After Maru’s menu changes, their prices went up, quality and quantity went down and that’s the reason for their downfall.

Will never visit again.

Brought my dad to Mitsu Sushi Bar for an omakase dinner as it was his birthday; chose Kou set [$238++] which came with appetizer, sashimi, 2 hot dishes, 6 sushi, soup and dessert

Appetizer was some sort of sea snail and also grilled shirako (fish sperm) with shaved black truffles. Initially I was apprehensive as I did not have a very good impression of it when I last ate it in Tokyo. However, they aburi-ed it which made the taste more manageable and the addition of shaved black truffles and salmon roe really helped elevate the acquired flavor and mask the fishiness. Overall, we truly enjoyed that dish!

Next came plump and fresh oysters [$9++] which were an ala-carte order. I highly recommend ordering this despite having an array of dishes that have yet to arrive. Oysters were impeccably sized and sat in a pool of ponzu sauce which was slightly citrusy and gave the oysters a nice acidic kick. It was so fresh it melted in our mouths and we were left craving more.

Soon followed a plate of 5 variety of sashimi (pictured above) ; botan ebi, ootoro, hamachi, ika and a type of clam. It also came with a pinch of uni (sea urchin) which was creamy and tasted like the ocean. All the sashimis were delicious and you can tell how fresh it is.

Our grilled dishes were Kagoshimaya Wagyu beef slices with charcoal grilled ginko nuts and tofu with uni and king crab. Both were delicious. The crab dish was lighter on the palette and coated with a thick and clear sauce which had a very mild flavor. This was largely palette cleansing and prepared you for the rich, fatty and savory flavor of the Wagyu beef. Truly melt-in-your-mouth due to the high content of fat marbling and we were told to dab each slice with some pink Himalayan salt to elevate the taste. Umami goodness!

We ended with 6 immaculate pieces of nigiri sushi consisting of sea bream, chutoro, flounder, unagi, flat fish and saving the best for last, aburi-ed Wagyu topped with a slither of foie gras. All were made after you finish the piece presented to you. The attention to detail for each and every dish was truly amazing. No wonder it takes so long for one to become a sushi chef!

Washed everything down with a refreshing and piping bowl of clam broth. One of the biggest clam I’ve ever seen and the meat was juicy and succulent.

We ended with a bowl of fruits which was also decorated with cream and a candle as it was my father’s birthday.

Overall, an incredible dinner and paid approximately $600 including a house pour of sake. Highly recommended for a special occasion and if you truly love and enjoy Japanese cuisine.

We ordered 2 donburi bowls: all in one and the Yaki niku Wagyu beef bowl
It comes with perfectly sous vide onsen egg, foie gras, caviar, uni, 2 types of Wagyu beef (cubed and sliced), crispy garlic chips and sautéed onions.
The other bowl had unagi instead of Wagyu beef but the same accompaniments.
We were asked if we preferred fried rice or white Japanese rice for the unagi bowl however only white rice comes with the Yakiniku bowl
Each ingredient was perfectly cooked and succulent; my partner claimed that the entire bowl was too rich for him and he felt “jelak” or overwhelmed halfway through the bowl. I on the other hand can take heavy flavor profiles and hence had no issue slurping up the entire bowl.
Highly recommend the Wagyu beef bowl if you fancy a hearty and substantial meal.
We also ordered the beef tongue for grilling and pork jowl. Beef tongue is an acquired cut of meat however my partner and I thoroughly enjoyed the slightly chewy texture. However, I would not recommend the pork jowl as it was too chewy and had not much flavor to its meat.
Overall, it was an exquisite experience with great service throughout the entire dining experience.

Although we had to wait quite some time and upon asking several times, the waiter finally brought our Wagyu steak which was still cold and defrosting, it was still a really good piece of meat. No wonder it cost us $68 for just 6 small cubes!
Highly recommend Niku katsumata for good yakiniku Wagyu beef; definitely can improve on service and interaction as they didn’t seem to have enough staff but overall was quite a pleasant experience!
My father really enjoyed his time there and said he would be back when he had cravings again.
Total bill was $240 for a Wagyu beef set, Wagyu marbled beef, lean Wagyu, Wagyu steak, kimchi set and a cold salad.

Cheapest buffet was $64.90++ which is quite pricey But it does include quite a lot of variety such as Wagyu beef , normal cuts of beef, black pork, chicken, lamb, prawn, scallop etc. It also includes various appetizers such as kimchi, edamame, cucumber, salads etc.
Service was quite fast and also the meat were cooked on charcoal which made it have a good char! Highly recommend you just eat your money worth with the Wagyu beef cuts and the tiger prawn and definitely don’t waste your stomach space on the carbohydrate dishes!
End of your meal with a few options of gelato such as mango, chocolate, matcha, vanilla etc. Really good gelato that comes in a pre-packaged cup. Definitely try the matcha and chocolate as it’s rich and not just your cheap cup of ice cream.
Overall, unless you’re a big eater if not the price is quite expensive for just dinner.

We ordered the smoked salmon eggs Benedict [$17], Bircher [$12] and yoghurt bowl [$14]
According to my parents, the eggs Benedict was done well; perfectly poached eggs, a slice of toasted sourdough and an average hollandaise sauce
I ordered both the yoghurt bowl which came with quite a generous amount of Greek yoghurt and quite a large handful of granola with fruits such as bananas, strawberry and blueberry. For the price point, I personally find it slightly pricey but it’s alright.
However, the Bircher was a let down. A thin layer of Bircher with some toasted muesli and a few meager pieces of strawberry. Definitely won’t be filling and not worth the $12.
Would come back for the 1 for 1 but may make different choices next time!

Ordered burpple meat dish 1 for 1 and quality and quantity was very small
Asked 3 times for our orders to come before it came really slow service
Only 4 prawns for$14 really expensive and not worth it
Everyone around us was eating buffet and seemed much more worth
Best thing we ate was the fried rice really tasty
Maybe would come back for the rice not the hotpot
