Carne Asada Quesadilla ($19) Back at vatos after my first visit for the burpple year end party, and decided to order the quesadillas because i remembered liking them alot. The 4 pieces didn't seem like much, but perhaps due to the thickness of the wrap and the richness of the cheese, was actually quite a substantial meal. Preciously tried the kimchi pork and loved it, but the carne asada that i decided to try this time round was a little disappointing. While being super flavourful with just the right punch if spiciness, the beef was tough and chewy. I'd recommend to stick with the pork instead which was more tender. Although i liked the food in general, prices here are indeed on the higher end, and i wouldn't dare say that it would have been worth it without burpple beyond

Tacos Tacos Tacos The moment you walk into the place, you’re hit with strong overpowering smell of onions which can be a little unpleasant. The atmosphere is one of industrial but yet it is cosy. The tacos are pretty good but it’s not the best out there and they are pretty expensive, for the price you’ve to pay. You could get better tacos out there as well. They do serve up some fancy and cool alcoholic drinks which girls would definitely love. I feel you can visit this restaurant if you’re not on a budget and don’t mind the price point.

Decent Quesadillas We had the spicy chicken ($18) and carne asada ($19) quesadillas. They were decent but I really really love their tacos which I had on a previous visit!!!

It’s TGIF tmr!! 🎉 Looking for a new place to dine and chill at Amoy Street? 🆕 Mpire @ 77 Amoy Street, whips up classy yet affordable western fare & some of the finest beers at their less than 1month old western fusion dine & bar 🍽🍻 . . [📝 Pictures are in reverse order of its description] 🥙 For appetizers, we ordered the Cream of Mushrooms ($10), Citrus Prawns ($14) and Roasted Portobello & Asparagus ($12). Totally recommend the fresh big Citrus prawns and the cream of mushroom (commendable cos of their home-made thick assorted mushrooms soup!!) However, the Portobello mushroom was extremely salty in our opinion and surprisingly didn’t go that well with the cheese sauce although the fry on the asparagus was alright. 🥘 For mains, we decided to go with the Beef Cheek Burgundy ($28) and Pan Seared Barramundi ($24). Nothing much to pinpoint on the mains, it was fairly decent 👍🏻 I also paired my tender beef cheek with their Santa Luz Alba (red wine, $10)🍷💯. Not forgetting that they also serve burgers, pastas and other mains ranging from $16 to $22! 🍻Chill with their cool craft beers straight from the tap, this includes Little Creatures, Black Cab Stout, London Pride, Stella Artois and Hoegaarden. Also, do check out their curated private wine cellar where you can head inside and find something you like 😉 . . Here at Mpire, it is indeed a great place to hang out right after work or on a Saturday 🙌🏻 💌 Once again, thanks @dawnchansg for inviting, it was great seeing you again 😄, and @mpiresingapore for hosting!! 🥰

Kelong-to-Table Seafood Must try is the Curry Mussels! Ordered extra Mantou to soak up the delicious rich gravy that is a mix between Chinese and Indian curry style. I believe them when they claim their seafood is freshly farmed from the kelong, because I taste the freshness and “natural-ness” of the seafood. Even though it is no longer on Burpple Beyond, I will come back to Scaled!

Fried Crispy Squid ($16+) Fried crispy squid with garlic aioli. Generous servings of crispy squid. The server will introduce the dishes and tell us how to best enjoy every dish. For this, he recommended to squeeze the lemon over the sauce to ensure the batter remain crispy it gives a refreshing taste to the sauce. The battered squids are well seasoned (with paprika? Salt? Pepper?) and taste great even without dipping into the sauce. The squid itself is cooked perfectly- not over cooked or rubbery. I love the taste of the batter.

Curry Mussels With Mantou ($16+) My fav dish of the night (we ordered 5). I don’t eat mussels/oysters/basically any shell seafood😂 but I ordered this because of the reviews as I love fried mantou with gravy😜. I enjoyed the mussels (I’m surprised too! although my friend -another shell seafood hater- didn’t). They are fresh, big, plump and tasty. 9 juicy plump mussels in a assam Indian fusion kind of curry with 3 deep fried mantou. Extra mantous are available at 3 for $2 - we ordered them with no hesitation. Mantous are hot, crispy and super soft on the inside and soaks up the curry very well. Delicious. Will definitely order this again the next time I’m back. With additional mantous, of course.
