But if it weren't for the coffee, I'd have no identifiable personality whatsoever. - David Letterman
Whether you’re slurping down a bowl of comforting fish soup from Mr Fish or you’ve endured the hour-long wait at the one-Michelin-starred Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice (good on you!), reward yourself with a lovely, ice-cold pint from Smith Street Taps. The sister outlet of The Good Beer Company, this haven for craft beer lovers offers familiar names like Sapporo alongside lesser-known brews from all over the world at very affordable price tags ($10-$12 for a pint). Don't be shy to talk to owners Daniel and Meng Chao for recommendations — it'd be silly to miss out on a great food pairing, or a truly unique pour. If available, go for the German Weihenstephaner ($12), a wheat beer that Burpple Tastemaker Russell Leong describes as “refreshing and light with a whiff of wheat and a tease of fruitiness”.
Avg Price: $15 per person (drinks only)

Everything on this table was so so good, from the Char Siew - perfectly roasted with a good bite. Bits of charred parts that make you think you have hit the jackpot when you savour it! To the well cooked noodles (I sompa this is seriously the wanton mee form of al dente), juicy tasty duck to even the dumplings in soup! The table were in a choir of hmmms and ahhhs 😋💦💦💦 a good meal well enjoyed for sure!
Hubby ate this regularly 40 years ago at Margaret Drive when the stall was helmed by current owner's father. And we managed to find it again! 😭
This restaurant is sparkling new. Even the toilets are clean with a beautiful sink. When we reached at 5+pm on a tue, most of the zi cha dishes like pork chops and ngor hiang were sold out. Even their famous steamed meat patty! So we ordered their new dish prawn paste fried chicken wing. It was delicious! Beautifully fried with the distinctive aroma of prawn paste, yet not too salty. We had the mixed platter of soy sauce chicken and poached chicken. They don't have roast chicken. The chicken skin was gelatinous and chewy and the meat was so smooth. Paired with their fiery chili sauce and minced ginger with chopped spring onion, the taste was truly divine. I ❤️ their peanut chicken feet soup! So rich and savory! My Cantonese DNA started humming. Their drinks were ok. I liked the ice lemon tea. I just wished their rice was not so soft. Only $50 for this whole meal for 3. What a deal! I can't wait to go back. Owner was delighted to see old patrons. We had a friendly chat and he said weekends are definitely more crowded. And more customers now prefer late dinner. So go early! I went at 5+ and still so many dishes sold out...
Best herbal style BKT to have on those cold rainy days! I mixed mine with pork ribs and kidneys! Throw in a bit of raw garlic (provided at the side) and some cut chilliest inside the soup and I'm good to go!!
