quite a standard buffet line. spread was just alright. nothing surprisingly nice. seafood on ice was fresh. but im more of a savoury person. so xy made me laksa. liked the laksa but then again, anything coconutty works for me.

crab pincers from mala seafood was ok. honey baked ham and the steak was average. both chilli crab and pepper crab meat were nua. so both dishes were a fail for me.

forgot to snap the dessert section but we had creme brulee, various flavours of gelato and a dark chocolate cake. cake was good and the blood orange gelato was something very refreshing to end off the meal with.

she da bao-ed the thai food from bugis for the first night and we ordered pizza hut for the second night.

thai food was overkill. takeaway quality was quite bad. rice was clumpy and omelette was nua. chicken was not bad though.

for pizza, we had a free large pizza coupon. so all we had to do was to hit the min order and we achieved that with the drumlets and garlic bread. coke stevia was bought from the jason's downstairs.

choose two out of three soups bases. picked laksa obviously and the chicken broths and pang seh-ed the mushroom one. the dishes are quite ex to me, so we ordered quite carefully. just some mushrooms, veg, tau pok, thick beehoon, beef and pork.

the laksa was just nice. gao enough but not too over. its not the super coconutty type you would expect but the flavour does come through. however, it gets saltier towards the end. the chicken soup on the other hand was on the lighter side which kind of helps to reset your palette in a way. good compliment to each other i guess.

tau pok and laksa are like a couple with a freehold lease. ordinary stuff but these two components just work very well together. the beef and pork were sliced quite thinly so cooking them is a breeze.

threw in the thick beehoon last to make a legit bowl of laksa noodles with the various ingredients we have. the beehoon soaked up the gravy very well. anyone can be a chef with this magical setup.

favourites will be the famed rosti which was well worth the wait. the soup was good too. gao enough. special mention goes to the sweet crepes. getting swears all over the place when i returned with two crepes, they said surely cant finish. but we did. guys do eat dessert afterall.

other than the usual veg and mushrooms, the shop has their own versions of various meats such as char siew, luncheon meat and meat balls. very interesting and the textures were quite close to the real thing. the tang hoon soaked up the sauce quite nicely too. the 中辣 we got was more numbing than we expected, so it will most probably be 小辣 the next time.

other than the bkt, we cleared out the roast meat from the hk roast stall as well. bkt was kinda pricey but the cuts were good. soup was on the lighter side for me. i personally prefer a more robust and flavourful broth. sides were not bad but they still could not steal the spotlight from the star; the off the bone tender pork ribs.

hk roast consisted of roast duck, char siew and sio bak. sio bak was not as crackling as i expected but its still ok. roast duck was pretty normal. char siew can go two ways. its the super fatty type, so either you like it or dont. even for the unhealthy me, i would still prefer it to be leaner. the fats were way overkill.

both chicken soups were kinda similar. was expecting them to be super herbal-ly for the price im paying but nope. saltiness almost killed the dish. we had to ask for hot water to dilute the soup. granted the chicken meat was tender, but the star of the dish was supposed to be the soup and disappointing it was.

impromptu dinner with yyx after xy ended work. wanted to go sushi bar but they were closed so we ended up here instead. with a weakness for kantang, i just had to order the gratin. crab croquettes, pasta and the seafood paella made up the remaining dishes.

gratin was cheesy and the slight char was done just nicely. texture of potato was alright too. not a must-order but just my comfort food. crab croquette was creamy but i did not really taste any crab bits or anything similar. still nice with just the batter and cream but kinda over priced imo.

pasta was quite simple. liked the texture of the noodles but the sauce was too sweet for my liking. paella was more of the real deal with all of the seafood flavour coming thru. ingredients were generous. rice was fragrant.

since it has been a while that i had their 流沙包, so in we went.

other than the famed 流沙包, we also got the yuzu 菠萝叉烧包, pumpkin porridge, turnip chee cheong fun and a radish pancake. i figured there was no point ordering the staples we always get at crystal jade and the likes.

porridge was mildly flavoured but smooth enough for me. the condiments on the side added extra layers of crunch and bite to the overall dish. a good and light compliment for the other heavier dishes machiam a palette cleanser. chee cheong fun was average. nothing spectacular.

the radish pancake consisted of radish, chinese sausage and bits of veg which made this dish very interesting with different textures. everyone should try this at least once.

the 流沙包 was not as flowy as i remembered. a slight disappointment but i can still make do with the taste. as a lover of everything yuzu, the 菠萝叉烧包 definitely gets my vote. i dont cook so i had no idea if the yuzu flavour came from the pastry or the filling but its certainly there. the filling was not too sweet so its nice.

so she found a place on eatigo at ulu yuan ching. but upon reaching, we realized the buffet more value than the discounted eatigo price, and so we opted for the premium steamboat buffet.

soups were served in individual pots and the mushroom flavour was alright. average. the chicken flavour tasted weird, so we requested to change it to the pork flavour and it tasted as weird as well.

and while we were ranting about the soup, the ingredients arrived and the quality was actually quite power. the beef was sliced thinly and the nice beefy yet not overpowering taste was there. hokkaido scallops were plump and juicy.

other good stuff include the lala, pork belly and prawns. with these ingredients and other supporting vegetables like radish and corn, we were able to modify our soup to a more palatable one. hence, the only remaining gripe is the location but the budget makes up for it.
