Delicious, tender, served with sweet sauce. Definitely a dish to remember in the Alternative 7-Course Set Meal, $78++ with #BurppleBeyond

Delicious smoked duck with balsamic vinaigrette as dressing, served piping hot! A new favourite at Dumpling Darlings. Got these 1 for 1 with #burpplebeyond

Joining the ranks of Korean joints in Telok Ayer is Baek Jung. Cheery Korean service with a great variety of banchan and even free bottled water, we learnt that they have their own small restaurant in Korea and this is their first venture out (though under a different name).

The food is extremely hearty and comforting (we definitely overdid it with #BurppleBeyond’s 1-for-1s). A single stew is large enough for two and we got two stews, beef bulgogi and a seafood pancake between the four of us! Really generous with the pork belly chunks in the kimchi stew, let it simmer until the meat’s tender and dig into the chewy ramyeon – the perfect rainy day comfort. Come here in a group as they’re items are best shared!

This hamachi belly sashimi was SO good, it was mind blowing. The slices were really thick and tasted so fatty and buttery. The knife cuts on top also enhance the texture of the sashimi. Thought salmon belly was my favourite but I guess this is my new thing!

Really glad that I got this with their salmon avocado roll as a light lunch, using #burpplebeyond. So worth it! (P.s. their salmon avo roll is really quite substantial and the combination was good because the avo was creamy.)

We ordered cold sobas ($15 for both due to burpple's beyond) and the noodles were really chewy! They were generous with the ingredients (such as the salmon and avocado). The staff were very friendly as well. Authentic, jap owner. Atmosphere is great as there's no crowd, little waiting time, on a weekend lunch. Would come back to try other things on the menu :)

Meet the East side bakery cafe to eat and be seen at. You gotta have bread — the Firebake Bread Board ($10) is a great place to start and figure out which loaf you like best (to take home). For mains, try the Aglio Olio Cappelini ($21) or the addictive Scottish Blue Mussels ($30).

Trotted down to here for a couple of their makis which you can get 1-for-1 on thanks to #BurppleBeyond! This comes with a tempura fried prawn in the middle, blanketed by a thin slice of unagi and drizzled with mayo and tobiko. Nothing ground breaking in the world of makis but a tasty and satisfying roll otherwise. Make sure you order their crispy tebasaki karaage too, those were da bomb!

The Communal Place is newly opened along Joo Chiat Road and while it was quiet when we went, we left wondering why? The food impressed, the space is great for groups and they’re really affordable (#BurppleBeyond is available here for mains too).

Our top pick for the night – this seafood bisque with a lobster head base and a great variety of fresh seafood. The mussels were extremely tasty; briney and tender, not like those old chalky ones you find in other places. You’ll even find baby octopus, dory and a couple of prawns in there. The soup itself is full of flavour, though not as thick as a usual bisque but I quite enjoyed it this way as it was a lot easier to slurp down. They might seem like a typical cafe, but their food has a certain refined flair to it that’s gonna have me coming back for more. #BurppleEatup

The aunty here is really like the grandmother who makes sure you're well-fed. Exceedingly generous with ingredients, this stall keeps people coming back with their value-for-money noodles. The char siew noodles are loaded with boiled wontons, fried wontons, char siew, and veg. But the mushroom pork rib noodles are the star. Instead of char siew, you get a good amount of super flavourful, super tender fall-off-the-bone pork ribs atop a good serving of noodles. How awesome is that?

So I slowly made my way to Amoy and decided that I had a Nasi Lemak craving. While standing in line patiently for my turn, the uncle from the store came to check on our orders. And then I heard him tell this lady behind me, "Sorry sold out already." Checked my watched and i was only 1230pm.

This unassuming stall situated right beside the famous Lor Mee on the 2nd floor had a loyal following of its own. It isn't surprising why. This plate pictured was only $3, came with a huge pile of super fragrant coconut rice and a kickass chicken wing. The chilli sauce is on the sweet side, but it was still satisfying to Mix in the chilli with the fragrant rice. At this price and quality, it's no wonder people make a beeline for it.
