How do you like your eggs? I like mine crispy with oysters at the side just like this Teochew Crispy Oyster Omelette. They did not skimp on the eggs and the oysters are soaked separately in a bowl of chili. The calories are worth it as every bite was so damn shiok.
The Teochew Braised Sliced Duck was my favourite on the menu. As a Teochew, I take my braise seriously and I can honestly say this one is not bad. There is tofu hidden under the thinly sliced duck and the braising liquid is decent enough to be drizzled on top of your bowl of white rice. The duck is tender but I wished the portion could be more generous. Some might like their duck to be sliced thicker but I like the fact that they sliced it thinly for that nice textural feel in your mouth.
Chirashi is a classic dish of sashimi pieces over a bed of sushi rice. It comes from the word 散らす (chi-ra-su) meaning “to scatter”, as in scattering fish bits all over the place. Some say that the origins of Chirashi come from wanting to get rid of extra, unattractive pieces of fish, after using the nice parts for sashimi or sushi.
This bowl consists of fresh ingredients like finely diced raw salmon, tuna, swordfish, surf clam, steamed prawn, ikura (salmon roe), tobiko (flying fish roe), cucumber, tamago and short-grained Japanese rice.
There is shoyu at the side and seasoning is kept to a minimum to retain the natural taste. You can add on chawanmushi and miso soup for $2.50
Definitely a satisfying bowl of Omega 3.
The basil is strong in this one for the Thai Basil Chicken Rice and I really like it. The minced Chicken also taste very balanced. It is not dry and not too salty. A simple yet satisfying meal!
If you are at KSL City Mall, you might spot two giant urns that are hard to miss. People are queuing to get their lunch fix at this restaurant. I like 3 of the dishes that I ate.
The tonic soup is gentle on the palette. There are hints of herbs and ingredients like dang gui, dang shen, red dates and pork ribs that is simmered for hours to give it flavour. It's also nourishing for the body. (RM 18.80)
The roast meat platter consists of classics like roast duck, siew yoke and char siew. The last time I had good char siew was many years ago in Hong Kong and the char siew here is definitely good stuff. Charred and filled with a smokey flavour, it comes with a really dark gooey sauce. It's strong in flavour yet not too sweet. The sio bak and roast duck are not very memorable but decent. (RM 34.80)
The noodles are springy and savoury. The shallot oil really helps to bring out the flavour and its very well-balanced. (RM 3.50)
Overall, quite shiok.
