Fried Chicken Chop Noodles I have heard much about Da Sheng Minced Pork Noodle — the stall having been featured on multiple social media platforms from time to time does somewhat hints at the stall’s popularity, and it is also a stall that I had wanted to pay a visit personally for quite some time. Didn’t realise that the stall is situated in the same coffeeshop as Mei Mei Roast (which I had visited a couple of years ago) until I had ordered my noodles though.
It sounds a little odd to order the Fried Chicken Chop Noodles here though, considering how they have called themselves Da Sheng Minced Pork Noodles, but I have always been intrigued by how their Fried Chicken Chop Noodles seem to be very identical to the ones served at Chin Seng Cooked Food at Tekka Centre — from the chunks of fried chicken to the Mee Kia used by default if the preference of noodles is not specified. Look past the aesthetics and all seems to differ; the main difference between both would be the sauces used for the noodles — Chin Seng Cooked Food is a stall that focuses on Wanton Mee, while Da Sheng Minced Pork Noodle primarily serves up Minced Pork Noodle; the Mee Kia here, which is done on the softer side, comes tossed with a rather vinegary sauce here in true BCM-esque fashion, amidst a slight hint of spiciness from the chili if one opts for it. The fried chicken chunks also seem to differ from that of Chin Seng’s double-fried rendition; here, the chunks of fried chicken comes juicier and more tender, but also hints of a stronger seasoning of black pepper that is evident, but not overpowering — rather close, but not totally similar to the ones I enjoyed from the camp’s canteen during my NS days.
As much as it is, Chin Seng’s and Da Sheng’s rendition of the fried chicken chop noodle should be viewed as separate types of Fried Chicken Chop Noodles despite their almost identical aesthetic — after all, both renditions are done in different styles according to the primary type of noodles that they serve up. That being said, Da Sheng’s rendition is still a good one which will do well with folks who prefer heavier flavours in general. Would give their Minced Pork Noodles a try next time!
