When Chef Bjorn Shen gives his distinct spin on pancake, I sit up and listen, and make sure I order a serving. Trust him to mix things up and push out a cool (also in terms of temperature) version of it.
A single, large, 1-inch thick pancake comes piled with a generous heap of smoked salmon slices and creamy egg mayo salad. On all that then goes Jim Beam whisky-enhanced sour cream, shaved onions, wasabi pea "dukka" (an Egyptian blend of flavoured and toasted nuts) followed by a drizzle of orange blossom honey.
The recommended way to eat this is to slice through the stack vertically, so you get all the flavours in every mouthful. I did just that and (no kidding) I was rolling my eyes with pleasure over every luscious mouthful.

I was amazed at how well these ingredients work together. 🍝 This is one of the new item on the refreshed menu at A for Arbite. Be sure to check them out at Aliwal Street. 👌

They have their own dimples for storing the delicious syruppy goodness. .

The Bakery Chef offers quality bakes that are damn delicious and very pretty (read: instagram-worthy). They offer dessert buffets every now and then, for when you're feeling indulgent. The Chocolate Guanaja has an intense chocolate flavour, and the Rainbow cake, infused with passionfruit and lemon, sells out fast. If you suffer from the pain of being indecisive, go for their dessert platter. Grab your friends along because good friends share calories, right?!

The good folks of Group Therapy now provide sanity and comfort in the East, with their second outlet located in the basement of Katong V. This spacious retreat feels rather different from their first at Duxton, but the food is quite the same. Enjoy a good cup of coffee and their go-to Eggs Ben if you're lazy to travel all the way to Duxton on the weekend! Photo by Veronica Phua

A cosy spot under a Bedok HDB flat suitable for young families and groups of friends, To-gather Cafe truly is a place to gather. With really reasonable prices, you can get Chocolate Lava cake ($3.80) and a coffee, or a dinner of tasty Grilled Pandan Chicken Chop ($8.90). Along with great ambience and service, there's no reason you shouldn't drop by this lovely cafe if you live nearby. Photo by Elaine Koh

While the space here might be tiny, the flavors definitely are not. With beautifully rustic, house-made bread, their decievingly simple sandwiches are such a delight. For a starter, order the "Not so humble eggs" ($6), a winning combination of thinly sliced Jamon ham on top of perfect soft boiled eggs that will make you want to order a second bowl. Expect a crowd on the weekends! Photo by Su Ann C *currently closed, new location to be announced !

A calming environment with the perfect mix of vintage and industrial, Lola's is a great spot for a casual brunch. Their honey paprika wings are a hit, along with their trusty eggs ben. Pick a nice cider from their wide selection to go with your wings, and kick back for a relaxing weekend. Photo by gninethree G93

Arterial is one place to head to for good coffee, soups, pastas, and open-top sandwiches. Their sandwiches include pleasures like flaked salmon, ham & cheese, and mushroom. A fried egg and feta cheese can be added for an additional $2, which comes highly recommended by Tastemaker Xing Wei, who says "It was a mess to eat, but seriously this is why it just tastes so good!" As they continue to update their menu and pour great coffee made from Liberty Coffee blends, this new cafe along Temple Street is set to make waves in the Chinatown cafe scene.

The gorgeous riverside ambience here already scores Cafe Brio's some major points, perfect for an alfresco date night. The quality of food and service here is consistently fantastic, with the daily international buffets featuring fresh sashimi and shellfish. Go for dinner between Mon and Thurs at just $58++, or indulge in the seafood and meats at the teppanyaki and barbecue stations on weekends from $68++.
