Pretty Disappointed. Good Service But Subpar Food. Have been wanting to try this place out for almost a year now and we finally got the push we needed when we saw that they were on Burpple Beyond! They specialise in hearty British fare such as fish and chips, pastas etc. Got the Bangers & Mash ($17.90) and Carbonara Duck ($18.90) and sadly, we were quite disappointed. The Bangers & Mash were average and we found the sausage a tad bit too salty for our liking. The mash was all right and had a good creaminess to it, but if you don’t like lumpy mash, this isn’t for you. The duck pasta in our opinion, even after the Burpple 1-for-1 deal, was completely not worth it. You can easily make a plate of this at home yourself for less than $7. The pasta sauce tasted like it came from a jar and the pasta wasn’t cooked to a nice al dente. The duck slices were okay but they honestly didn’t add much value to the dish. Went back later on to read the reviews and realised we weren’t the only disappointed patrons and they seemed to be consistently pushing out subpar plates of food. What a waste. The staff, however, were very friendly and nice, which is pretty much the only plus point of the experience. We hope they buck up soon and the food quality will improve if we ever come back!

1-for-1 Mains (~$17.90) + Butterbeer Ordered Tandoori Fish, Hunky Dory Aglio Olio (+ prawns and onsen egg) and Butterbeer (separate order). The sauce for the Tandoori Fish was packed with spices and flavours however the fish is really small and consists of two small pieces. Doesn’t feel very worthy of the $17.90 pricetag. Hunky Dory Aglio Olio (not shown in pic) is pretty good, addition of the prawns and onsen egg is a superb choice! However do note that the addition of prawns & onsen egg (~$5.80) is not covered within the Burpple Beyond 1-for-1 Mains promotion, which we were quite dismayed to find out as the staff failed to convey this to us prior to ordering. The pasta by itself cost $10.90, wouldn’t say it’s very worth to obtain that as the free item since the free item is redeemed for the item of lower value. Butterbeer ($8) is good, worth a try as you don’t see this beverage commonly sold outside! Overall the cafe is quite aesthetically themed, might be a bit warm during the afternoon as there’s not much air-conditioning.

What A Masterpiece! We ordered the Pesto Cream Dory Fish and it was such a colorful masterpiece. The ingredients used were fresh. The pesto wasn’t overbearing and allowed the flavor of the dory fish to shine. The dory fish was silky, soft and decadent. It had a crispy layer of fish skin, which gave a nice change in texture to the velvety fish. The mashed potato ain’t your regular mashed potatoes. It was so smooth and buttery, and it absorbed all the essence of the dory fish and the pesto sauce. The dish was light on the palette yet so satisfactory. We also ordered the Butter beer (Homemade butterscotch soda, $8) excluded from the 1-for-1 deal and it was totally worth it. The soda wasn’t as sweet, with a hint of bitterness and was fragrant. The foam was sweet, smooth and flavorful, which blended harmoniously with the soda. However, it gets sweeter as you drink because of the foam. Overall, it was truly a unique experience with great ambience. Definitely coming back again!

Crowd pleaser Looks like you can’t go wrong with the Winestone Signature Burger ($27++). The portion was large, the wagyu patty tender, and there was a generous serving of portobello mushroom. That might be a minus if you do not enjoy mushrooms, as the taste often overshadowed the other components of the burger.

Fancy beef bolognese Ordered the ragout tagliatelle ($25++), which turned out to be a fancy beef bolognese that still isn’t the best out there :’( The pasta was perfectly al dente, and the sauce rich. However, dish felt cheap with the use of ground beef that didn’t have much bite to it. It also turned out to be jelak / fairly overwhelming about halfway through the dish. Perplexing as they are generous with the ingredients for the seafood risotto (also heavy tasting, but very much worth its price point). But worth a mention that service was good :) TL;DR you really have to love beef bolognese to enjoy this dish (which I did), but likely leave feeling cheated.

rich risotto The braised seafood risotto ($28++) was easily my favourite. The short grains had a great bite, and I was impressed with the rich seafood bisque! Every mouth was a burst of creamy flavours. The portion of seafood was extremely generous - there were crayfish, mussels, prawns and even scallops?! Each component was fresh and succulent, retaining its natural sweetness. It can get overwhelming with its strong flavours and large serving, so this is best shared. But I’ll be back for this! 🌟

Almond Brioche, Cranberry Walnut Sourdough, Rye Sourdough, Chocolate Milk Loaf (in Bag) When a deliveroo driver ringed our intercom and presented 4 loaves and 2 croissants with Nassim Hill stickers on Saturday- I was confused but later moved by a close friend’s gesture. Looks like my love for bread has been explicitly spelt out to my circle of friends. Breakfast next morning was Nassim Hill’s croissants which are good but fall short of the perfect croissants with its thick doughy layers in the center. I apologies but I’ve had a lot of croissant to be nit-picky. The almond brioche loaf was decent but slightly airy. It almost felt like too much dry ingredient, lacking the indulgent nature you’d expect of brioche. Yet strangely the butter content seeps through on a paper plate. That said, there were definitely stand outs from the lot- I loved Nassim Hill’s sourdough for its thin crust. The sourdough starter used also gave the slices a nice tang without it being sharply acrid. The milk chocolate “loaf” which was really a non-chilled cake was another delicious sweet treat I’d recommend.

Aint worth the pricetag 4 pieces of waffles with a few strips of bacon - $20. Tbh it is quite underwhelming as it was listed as a main. Wont be coming back for this, perhaps other items on the menu.

Truffle Mac And Cheese $19++ Used eatigo for this so it was super worth and and really good!! One of the better mac and cheese around! Bread crumbs together with the baked mozzarella cheese at the top layer was amazing!! Truffle taste was quite strong too. Cheese sauce was cheesy and not too creamy/jelak. Will come back to try others or even for this again 😛 The cheddar cheese bacon waffles behind was also good, if you like savory waffles! There were 4 pieces of waffles given which was quite filling and the waffles were very crispy!

Roasted Pistachio Residing in my “to try” list for the longest time, how blessed I was when the family was gifted a pint during this CB period. Have no qualms about Dopa Dopa being one of the better ice cream creamery around in SG after trying their noteworthy Roasted Pistachio flavour. You get grounded bits of the premium nut and a very pronounced roasted taste; my pistachio ice cream loving Dad was nodding in approval.

Is This What Happiness Tastes Like? 🍦 Take a spoonful of happiness, a dollop of joy. That’s what ice cream tastes like. Pure sweet bliss. Dopa Dopa Creamery is named after dopamine, which is known as the chemical hormone that gives us pleasure. Their ice cream is unique and different from other ice cream parlours in Singapore as it’s one of the few I’ve seen (apart from Venchi) that stores their ice cream in metal containers, which are known as pozzeti that help the ice cream stay fresh. That’s how you spot real good gelato in Italy, and I have to say, the sweet treats at Dopa Dopa are the closest I’ve had in Singapore to authentic Italian gelato 🍨 Their ice cream is a tad pricey though, at $4 for a single flavour and an additional $0.70 for premium flavours like Pistachio (which is what I had), or other popular flavours like Hojicha and Green Tea Toasted Rice. Still, the ice cream was deliciously smooth and creamy, and tasted like pure pistachio butter. It’s a subtle light brown colour and not bright lurid green, which is how you know that Dopa Dopa is the REAL DEAL, making their ice cream with natural ingredients and no artificial colouring 💚 🍦I make fun bite-sized food reviews on YouTube! Lamb Shank This Lamb Shank was huge, and the gravy full of flavour. Having been braised for 3 hours, these are the sort of dish you eat twice. First, you cut off all the obvious meat. Second, you lift the bone up to your mouth and gnaw away at the itty bitty bits before you end off the meal with a satisfying burp. Of course, that’s how you eat in a restaurant. Since I’m home now, no one cares about dining etiquette, I’m jumping straight to step 2.⁣ ⁣ To order, simply call them at 6390 1699, or WhatsApp them at 9420 1150! Value For Money As a social arm of Singapore Maritime Officers' Union, Lighthouse Bistro uses the freshest ingredients and an eclectic blend of herbs and spices, and together with their chefs, have ventured beyond the norms of conventional food to create a carefully curated menu.⁣ ⁣ Pictured here are:⁣ ⁣ • Medley of Mushroom. Creamy mushroom soup scented with fresh aromatic herb oil and garnished with micro herbs.⁣ ⁣ • Spicy Garlic Prawns. Slicked in plenty of garlic, these prawns were really rich and savoury. I had the pleasure of getting my fingers sauced in them when an idea struck me. While watching that umami-ness pooling in the bowl, I concluded that I needed bread and proceeded to dunk the toasted garlic bread meant for the mushroom soup into the bowl. Well, best decision ever.⁣ ⁣ • The Lamb Shank (let me talk about it in another post, stay tuned!)⁣ ⁣ To order, simply call them at 6390 1699, or WhatsApp them at 9420 1150! Fisherman's Angel Hair 💵: $19 🤔: Not really a fan of sweet + savoury food so I didn't enjoy this that much, but it was still a pretty decent bowl of pasta overall.

So good! Fat Belly has impeccable service and a stylish, intimate setting. We ate our food at the bar, an appropriate distance away from each other for the purposes of social distancing. The food came quickly and was DELICIOUS. Our sides came first. The creamed kale was my partner’s favourite and mine was the pomme puree. The pomme puree in particular was a smooth, buttery, perfect side for the tender, juicy and flavourful steaks (we had the Deckle and Denver) that was our main course. The cheesecake we had for dessert was also impeccable. It melted in the mouth and had the perfect touch of sweetness. I absolutely would love to come here again.

Delicious Food! The steaks we had here were excellent. The cuts were of great quality (I personally preferred the tenderness of the Deckle) and they were cooked to textbook perfection. We wanted to try something different, so we opted for the Creamed Kale and Pomme Puree instead of the Truffle Fries. Both were great but I enjoyed the kale more because it nicely soaked up the sauce while still retaining its crunchiness. The burnt cheesecake we shared for dessert was also delicious, and we felt the berries and honey were a nice touch to compliment the rich creaminess of the cake. All in all, a great meal. Highly recommended.
