2 Cranes Boeuf Benedict Probably a spot that most would have heard of by now; serving up Korean-inspired brunch plates and situated at the heart of Kovan within the same neighbourhood as Knuckles Bistro, Hatter Street Bakehouse and Cafe and Nakhon Kitchen. Featuring elements such as Beef Bourguignon with House Sauce, Rockets, Butter Toast and Poached Eggs, this was essentially like the typical Eggs Benedict but with a slightly Korean twist. Enjoyed how the Beef Bourguignon was executes, with tender and soft-to-bite slices of beef that was marinated with Gochujang that helped to add a sweetness to the dish, without the beef carrying anything hint of gaminess. Otherwise, the poached eggs were runny with yolks that eagerly burst out of the whites as one pokes through with a fork, while the greens help to add a good balance to the entire dish. The only qualm we had was the bread beneath — serving the dish with wholemeal bread, we wished the bread could carry a bit more bite and could be a little bit more crusty for better texture; did not help that the soft and limp slices of bread is soaked with all that sauce and juices of the meat that turned it a wee bit soggy. Overall, still a good attempt on Korean-inspired brunch — would probably be back for their toast offerings, and the unique concoctions of drinks they have on their menu.

Boeuf Benedict ($15) and glass noodle dumplings ($6). Two Cranes is another cafe to check out in Kovan with its Korean fusion dishes. Complete your brunch with Korean style beef bourguinon and poached eggs on toast, with crispy japchae (Korean glass noodles!) filled dumplings.

Korean Lunch And Brunch We have a full Korean spread at Two Cranes. The spicy chicken stew which is a crossover between spicy chicken ramyeon and budaejjigae. Innovative yuzu coffee that has a thick creamy yuzu foam that adds the grapefruit citrus profile to the fruity aromatic long black. Ordered fried chicken wings that were fried and crisp but quite average in taste. The jajangmyeon has sweetness and savoury blended in the bean paste and chewy texture noodles.

Kiroi Freshly Baked Cheese Cake 04/07/19 Original flavour ($8) Incredibly light, soft and spongy cheesecake that is not excessively sweet. A good dessert or mid-afternoon snack if you are looking for something light. Will try their other flavours if in the area but do note that flavours available for walk-in are limited. It is better to pre-order to have access to all flavours available. Best consumed on the day itself or within 3 days if refrigerated. Taste: 9/10 (Worth trying if in the area) When I was there at around 1400H, there were only original and original with raisins available. Note: They currently have a loyalty stamp card whereby buying 10 cheese cakes (Expires Dec next year) entitles you to 1 free cheese cake. However, if paying using FavePay (5% Cashback), you are not entitled to the stamp.

Original Cheese Cake Used to be situated in Bukit Merah Central and Chong Pang (the Chong Pang outlet got replaced by another brand with a similar concept), it's surprising to find them yet again this time at Alexandra Village. Nothing has changed to the cake; this was absolutely pillowy and fluffy, soufflé-like with a light whiff of cheese. Best to have it warm because it's when it tastes best; moist and rich and totally hard to resist after one slice.

For the first leg of @cforcoffeee’s birthday celebrations, we went to the #bestshitrestaurant in town for the least authentic Middle Eastern food at Artichoke. After nine years of operation and #stillnotdead, Artichoke has refreshed their weekend brunch menu, offering hearty and honest fare, none of the hipster waffles and pancakes. It’s always a joy to dine at Artichoke as you can be rest assured that you are in good hands to fill your bellies with good food. In addition to the must-orders of Turkish bread and hummus, we shared the Brunch Snack Pack ($22), a constructed plate of sharwarma spiced chicken, fried egg, fries and pickled onions among the medley of ingredients, and the Cauliflower Kushari ($24) which I have shared my review on it previously. We left the restaurant filled and satisfied. •••••••••••••••••••• 📍Artichoke 161 Middle Road, Singapore 188978

Fabulous with a side of bread If you like eggplants, stewed veggies, and olive oil, you’ll like this iconic Mediterranean dish: imam bayildi. To be fair I’ve not had this anywhere else so there’s nothing to compare Artichoke’s against, but their rendition is, without doubt, absolutely delicious. What you’ve got is a plate of eggplants stuffed with tomatoes and onions, simmered in oil till they practically disintegrate and melt in your mouth. It’s extremely confit-like, if not for the clearly roasted exterior and how the eggplant’s absorbed all the amazing flavours from its stuffing. All those intense flavours are then balanced out with dollops of creamy yogurt, and a generous glug of fruity olive oil. Grab some bread and tuck in to this, just trust me on it.

Afraid I’ve gotta be a naysayer here, telling you guys that I really did not enjoy this “Thicc Hashbrown”. Don’t get me wrong, texture wise it was absolutely fantastic and I think this concept of a really thick hashbrown as opposed to the thin ones is a stroke of genius. It’s super crispy on the outside with that lovely golden crust, and the inside’s so pillowy and soft, it kinda reminds me of confit potatoes. The issue here though, is that our hashbrown was completely unseasoned. Which, to me, is a big...why guys. They’ve got this mountain of sour cream on top, which will a add a lovely chilled, creamy, and acidic contrast; but having no salt at all made it all really unbalanced and unpleasant. It could be a mistake that our portion wasn’t salted, but even if it was it’s such a rookie mistake idk what to say 😞
