What bugged me most was the inconsistent service - showing preferential treatment to what I assume are regulars, & a really bad bad attitude to others.
There isn't a proper distribution system for the eggs either - when I was told to wait for my eggs, I did, but then I noticed portions being taken away by other customers that ordered after me.
Oh, & as you can see, the eggs yolks are pretty cooked (I prefer mine actually runny).
This made for an unpleasant breakfast to start the weekend with. Not keen to return.
I don't recall having such an unpleasant experience the last time I was here, but that was 7 years ago so perhaps things have changed.
Coffee is good; Kaya Toast is ordinary with the bread really soft (I prefer mine toasty & crispy) so IMHO it's not worth trying.
(Continued in next review)
The Google maps reviews are accurate. Sad portion & doesn't even taste good. The soup is on the mild side, which I don't mind, but this was just so much rice... Like, 70% of it was rice. I didn't finish it. That's how bad it was.
& this cost $7.50. Ew.
The atmosphere inside is REALLY warm after it fills up with guests & especially if you're drinking soup like I was. Really regretted not bringing my hairtie with me to tie my hair up š
I was perspiring so much & was so uncomfortable to a point where I immediately raised my hand to call for the bill once I finished my food. I guess that helps them with quicker turnover of customers š What's posted here was when I got seated - when I left, they were full-house.
The Ebi Taigamori ($18++) was... Okay.
It was enjoyable on first slurp, but after a while, the double-boiled Katsuo Soup felt very one-dimensional & salty. The tempura batter is quite thick & oily, but the prawns inside were plump & good.
I somewhat liked the chewy texture of the udon, but I didn't find it particularly mind-blowing.
Maybe the other dishes are more unique & impressive... The menu is pretty varied with several types of Udon & cooking styles. I would consider trying them if I come back.
Khao Hom, please teach your staff that the appropriate response to a customerās request for food spillage on the floor to be cleaned, so that we can sit at the table.... Is DEFINITELY not "you can just sit at another table".
Especially if the customer has a bandaged/injured leg - kinda ridiculous to make her walk here, there & everywhere, no?
& speaking of walk, it might also be a liiiittle bit more professional to walk nearer to the customer to hear what sheās trying to say, instead of indicating that youāre confused because you canāt hear me. Just a suggestion. š
The floor was only cleaned after I was seen taking a photo of it, which happened ~5 seconds before another couple sat at that table. They then told the waitress who came to their table (she came with the QR code to order, not with a broom or mop - but to be fair, she wasnāt the one I spoke to) to clean up the food on the floor.
Your premises were not crowded. The 4 staff I saw on shift were pretty much idling. Cleaning the floor is basic courtesy & also hygiene. But maybe thatās not part of your best practices.
While there is a sign that says "self service", the stall uncle was kind enough to bring my bowl to my seat. I guess it helped that I was here before the coffeeshop got crowded. Much appreciated especially as a solo diner!
HDB multi-storey parking is available across the road or down the road (~6 mins walk away). Free parking on Sundays.
Just ate the spiciest prawn noodles ever in my life here & made it out alive. Was sweating buckets throughout, but I'm motivated to return š Because the soup is pretty good & robust - I would like to try the soup version next time.
The soup version ($4.50) is 50Ā¢ cheaper than the dry one ($5) I had, so that works out perfectly for me.
So yeah, consider this fair warning - the chilli is SPICY. But I guess it has its charm, as I noticed many other tables around me had ordered from this stall.
(Continued from previous post)
(4) The curries served alongside the prata were very watery, & so was the coffee.
(5) Everything was operationally messy & chaotic.. Even the billing took a while, & they asked us for the plastic billing card - despite them having taken it away from us after we ordered. Seems like the SOPs arenāt clearly established here; which makes it very confusing for the customers.
Iām unlikely to return here again. I do wish this had been a better experience, but it is what it is. Do not recommend having a meal here unless you are absolutely starving or something.
(Continued from previous post)
(3) The quantities & delivery of our food messed up majorly. Unsure if the root cause is an error on the ordering waiterās part, or the kitchenās, or both. (Regardless, that was really off-putting to me, because we were strangely denied the opportunity to key in our own orders electronically.)
- Ordered 2 egg & cheese pratas, but 3 were served. Told the boss about it, & he said that the orders are directly sent to the kitchen. Donāt know what kind of a non-response that was, but I couldnāt be bothered to remind him that WE werenāt the ones who keyed in the order. We offered to, but he told us not to, several times.
- The tissue prata that we were looking forward to never arrived. Several other tables that ordered later than us got theirs first. We eventually cancelled it because we were unimpressed by the other dishes we had already consumed.
Extremely sub-par experience here. So many odd things that happened, & food didnāt match up to the 4.3 stars shown on google maps.
Appreciate the effort of the boss (I assumed thatās who he is) to serve us & take us through the menu, but ultimately the quality of food & experience fell flat.
(1) We had already keyed in our entire order using our phone/QR code, but was asked not to submit it (after many bewildering rounds of clarifications). Instead, we told to pass our phone to the server for him to refer to, & manually take down our order to submit to the kitchen. Very inefficient & strange, especially since we had already done all the keying in work.
(2) The Chicken Masala was heavily pushed to us; apparently tourists from China especially enjoy it. It was at best just okay (with the context that in our home country, we have this cuisine readily available).
Review continued in subsequent posts with accompanying photos.
I waited just 9 minutes for my food at Legacy Pork Noodles. I didnāt like itā¦..
.. I loved it š¤
Having said that, Iāve read several posts saying they waited 45 mins - 1 hour for their food. There are few things that would make me happy after waiting that long (except Zouk Mambo night iykyk where all my senior citizens at). I really dislike queuing.
So with that context, hereās the low-down:
I got a bowl of Signature Pork Noodles - Soup ($6.50 nett). Was delighted that it costs the same with or without organs (pig intestines, kidney, liver). My friend, on the other hand, was not amused that his organ-less portion didnāt have more meat than mine.. Only a piece of taukee, which wasnāt enough to balance out the inequity.
The soup was flavourful & umami. Ingredients were good & plenty with the organs. I was impressed by how the liver was still tender (a difficult balance to achieve), but didnāt quite enjoy the extreme porkyness of the meatballs. Minced meat & sliced pork were fine, though.
There were 2 chunky pieces of pork lard in the noodles - I donāt eat those, but putting it out there FWIW.
The noodles arenāt tossed in chilli or vinegar like the Bak Chor Mee we are used to in Singapore, so that tangyness & acidity is missing. Nonetheless, itās still slurpable & flavourful with the dark sauce (KL style), complimented by the silky smooth noodle texture with a great chew in every bite.
I was here at 6:30PM on a weekday, & there wasnāt a queue to place my order. Slightly after I got my food, the queue exploded & the coffeeshop was full-house. By 7:10PM, they closed off orders to focus on cooking - presumably so they can get off work by their closing time of 8PM.
TLDR: Impressed by the noodles here & I hope I donāt have to queue for long the next time Iām here. I would like to try the Bitter Gourd Pork Noodles next time⦠This was my original selection, but they had run out of bitter gourd. š„
