Sweet treats to end our night - because no thai meal is complete without these quintessential Thai desserts:
๐ธ ๐น๐๐
๐น๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ช๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ด๐๐๐ ($7.00++, pictured)
๐ธ ๐บ๐๐๐๐ ๐บ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐น๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐ด๐๐๐๐ ($9.50++)
Again, these were okay. I don't get the hype. Were there better dishes to order? Can someone tell me?
In the ๐ญ๐๐๐๐ ๐ถ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐ญ๐๐๐๐ ๐ท๐๐๐๐๐ ($16.00++), the prawns were indeed fresh, I'll give them that. I particularly enjoyed how fluffy the omelette was without being too oily.
The mains fared better; but again, I wouldn't consider them mind-blowing. I enjoyed both the ๐ท๐๐๐ ๐ป๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐ญ๐๐๐๐ ๐ท๐๐๐๐๐ ($17.50++, pictured) & ๐ญ๐๐๐๐ ๐ถ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐ญ๐๐๐๐ ๐ท๐๐๐๐๐ ($16.00++) equally.
The prawns were indeed fresh, I'll give them that.
The other starter that we ordered were the ๐ช๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ท๐๐๐๐ ๐บ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐น๐๐๐๐ ($14.90++)... These were alright, with a sizeable juicy prawn inside & a crispy, flaky exterior. Was it a strong start, though? I wouldn't say so... This was just fine.
Heard so much about Un-Yang-Kor-Dai, what with it being on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list 3 years in a row (2021 - 2023). Maybe this hyped it up too much in my mind, but I felt that what I ate was just.... Okay. Not bad (except 1 dish), but certainly not outstanding IMHO.
Let's get the offending dish out of the way: ๐ฎ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ท๐๐๐ ๐ต๐๐๐ ($17.00++). I don't know how one can mess up pork neck, but it was actually pretty dry & tough to eat. Didn't expect that, & definitely wouldn't order it again.
I actually returned to Woke Ramen a few weeks later when I caught another flight out of Changi Airport. Just because I was specifically craving their ramen & broth.
Tried a different dish this time - Woke's Prawn Paste Ramen ($14.90++). The broth & fixin's were the same as the Tiger Prawn Ramen's: A ramen egg, crunchy black fungus, sliced cabbage & spring onions. I reckon they should be pretty standard across the prawn broth bowls...
The prawn paste balls are great; tasty & with a firm bite to them. Technically, they're more fuss-free than prawns, as no peeling of shells is required.
Do I have a preference between prawn paste/balls & tiger prawns? Not really, if I gotta be honest. I liked them pretty equally. ๐๐ป

Damn. This Tiger Prawn Ramen ($14.90++) SLAPS. 2 fresh tiger prawns that you have to deshell on your own, but the shells come off easily. Plenty of other ingredients fill up the bowl as well - a ramen egg, crunchy black fungus, sliced cabbage & spring onions.
Their specialty ramen noodles are silky smooth, & have a lovely bounce to them. I was particularly impressed by the prawn broth on first sip; when they say wok hei, they mean it. It was there.
The amount of broth they give is generous, too. It actually submerges almost everything in the large bowl; not like what is pictured in the menu. For pictorial purposes (i.e. in the menu) - showing less broth so the ingredients are visible? I get it.
Ultimately, Iโm pretty darn happy - for how delicious & substantial this bowl of prawn ramen was. Would recommend & would return!
I reckon itโs pretty out of the way for most, being located at Changi Airportโฆ (Not me, when I visited, as I was catching a flight.) But I do feel this is something Iโd make the journey for.

Well I was gonna do it anyway, so I showed the waiter my Instagram Story with @wokeramensg taggedโฆ. Then he told me I have to wait.
.. For what, though?
Apparently, the content posted needs to be of the ramen itself. & that's not stated here in the promotion mechanics ๐ So what I'd posted about their premises/brand (since I was waiting for my ramen to be served) didn't qualify.
I gave him feedback, & also DM-ed Woke Ramen about how it's probably in their best interests to clearly state this in their little standee. Not sure if that has changed (this post is belated; somehow it slipped through the cracks), but looking at others' photos.... It might not have. Haha.
I don't actually have an issue with the T&Cs, but I do think about the poor staff who have to keep explaining this invisible fine print. Common sense would mean just spelling it out here clearly, so it's unambiguous for all.
Just my two cents. ๐

Giap asked me if I enjoy sweet drinks or desserts; I donโt, but kept an open mind.
Damn. This surprised me greatly. Itโs not actually that sweet; quite balanced from the furikake & foam.. It ended up being my favourite of the night.
Also worth noting that this is the only cocktail that is served warm (& thus, takes a bit more time to prepare ๐)

I surprisingly enjoyed the lighter drinks that I started off with, & was curious about the more spirit-forward drinks (congruent with my usual preference).
This one took it up a notch & also came with delectable nibbles on the side. It was dark & mysterious & became my favourite of the night thus far..

This was a thirst-quenching highball that came with unexpected complexity & depth. I'm pretty intrigued by pine as an ingredient in this cocktail.

I'd chose the flight of 4 (not the full set), of which this cocktail (2nd out of the full 6) isn't a part of. But Giap was so kind as to pour me a portion to try!
This isn't the actual presentation glassware iirc. Apparently, this has been quite a crowd favourite thus far.
