Of course, I had to have dessert as well, but before that, I welcomed the tantalising burnt mango palate cleanser! The Corn Salat ($14), served with warm corn tea, was decent. I love a good kueh salat any day; however, I think the corn custard with its buttery aftertaste didn’t go quite well with the glutinous rice layer.

For that splurge, the Grilled Short Rib (+$7) was a delicious upgrade. Served with wagyu finger rib satay glazed with earthy buah keluak, the grilled Angus short rib was enhanced with savoury beef garam. Wonderfully marbled and indulgent. The quality proteins were accompanied by black garlic percik sauce, ‘green curry’ and The Coconut Club’s famed coconut-infused rice. Yums to the laksa and coriander emulsion.

Opened right above The Coconut Club at Beach road, Belimbing was a lovely spot to have a refined Mod-Sin meal with the girls.

Kicking off the 2-course lunch menu ($58) was the delicate one-bite Charcoal Kueh Pie Tee with sweet red prawn paired with honeydew, leek, and fried shallots. Crisp, fresh and familiar.

Next for the mains, the Wok-Fried Nasi Ulam came highly recommended especially if you can handle the mild level of spice. Steamed in fishbone dashi, then fried with sambal balado and belacan, the Japanese short-grain rice was grilled in banana leaf and studded with herbs (laksa leaf, ginger flower and ulam raja). Fluffy and aromatic. The fish was also prepared beautifully with its skin air-dried for two days, for that crackling crispness exterior.
