Hopped onto a Grab upon reaching the Ipoh airport and was initially headed to a not-so-good chee cheong fun (according to the driver), and he instantly recommended us to somewhere much better that’s also around the area that we were heading. Coincidentally, after a short chat, he got hungry too and decided to head there for breakfast as well. And with that, off we went to Canning Garden Chee Cheong Fun.

This stall occupies a small space in a coffeeshop and with its popularity among the locals, they usually sell out by 10-11am, so head there early if you want to have some of these. Back home, I will avoid ordering chee cheong fun as it’s usually slathered with that sweet brown sauce and chilli, and the rice rolls have a weird flavour that lingers on my tastebuds. However, since I’m in Ipoh and they are famous for chee cheong fun, I have to try it and it tasted so differently than what I would have thought. At RM 4.60, the chee cheong fun is drenched in chilli sauce, a sweet sauce with minced meat and garnished with green chilli and sesame seeds. We are off to a good start in our Ipoh food adventure!
