Although the reviews I read about Thai-licious before coming were raving about their Tom Yam Egg noodles that made me really tempted to try, I decided to have a taste test on their award-winning dish - Thai Boat Noodles. If you have a small appetite, perhaps consider going for the small portion at $1.90 and try other dishes on the menu because there are indeed a few worth trying.
I am not a fan of Thai boat noodles because of its sweetness and a metallic taste in the broth I usually find. Traditionally, boat noodles had salted cow’s or pig’s blood added to the soup to make it thicker. But because this is banned in Singapore, Thai-licious fulfils this by boiling the bones over hours to extract a concentrated flavour for the broth. On a rainy day, it surely keeps your heart and tummy warm especially with the addition of Thai herbs and spices such as Galangal, Ginger, Lemongrass, Cinnamon, Coriander and Kaffir Lime Leaves. For me personally, it was the kaffir lime and coriander leaves that made the broth addictive, as the citrusy refreshing note cuts through the sweetness to in the robust flavour of the soup.
While the rice noodles felt like they were slightly over cooked, the slightly gamey pork balls were bouncy, but the sliced pork were rather tender. The portion was huge and I couldn’t finish the entire bowl as we still had other dishes, but it was no less worthwhile.
Thanks to Burpple Beyond, the deal was really attractive that we over-ordered!
