If you happen to visit one of their restaurants, you will notice that the menu is different from the food courts, except a few soups, but largely serving a variety of nutritious soups and zichar dishes. Back when I have yet to discover their restaurants, I will usually get the Lotus Root Soup with Peanut as it comes with a generous portion of pork ribs in that savoury broth that has been seasoned with the secret ingredient; the dried squid, which elevates the soup and ups the notch in the umami-ness scale. Right now, the lotus root soup stands on par with my new favourite, the restaurant-exclusive Pork Rib with Apple and Snow Pear Soup ($11). Initially, I was skeptical as to apples and snow pears in a Chinese soup but I was proven wrong as this sweet-savoury double boiled soup is both refreshing and comforting at the same time. This was so good that i finished every drop of liquid that’s left in the bowl. The best accompaniment to these soups will definitely be the Pumpkin Rice ($2.70), which you know is the real deal as the rice actually contains chunks of softened pumpkin in it. Additionally, Lao Huo Tang has a menu of zichar dishes which you can order for a family meal with dishes such as Sweet & Sour Pork ($15.30), Spinach with Salted & Century Egg ($17.40) and the whole deep fried Grouper Fish that’s wrapped in lotus leaves and served with a tangy spicy sauce that’s perfect to whet your appetite ($21.70). Lao Huo Tang is available for delivery now and you can order these soups and dishes from the link below.
