Run by a friendly elderly couple since many years ago, my mum and myself (sometimes with my sister) will patronize this stall on an alternate weekend basis and we will always order the same thing; the largest bowl of sliced fish soup at $7, a portion of preserved vegetables (mei cai) and a bowl of braised pig's skin and pork belly. Pour some of that umami braised sauce over some white rice while enjoying the fish soup is definitely one of the simple joys in life.

It used to be you placing your order with the smiley auntie before heading back to your table and waiting for your order to be served personally by herself. However, due to age catching up, now you've got to queue in line to get your food. Do note that the waiting time has not changed from previous and expect to wait for approximately 20-30mins. Nonetheless, all is worth it once you have taken a sip of that clear broth and have a bite at the sliced fish.

Each bowl of fish soup is prepared upon order and the uncle cooking it only uses fresh, and not frozen, fish slices. Other ingredients that he added include vegetables, tomatoes and seaweed. Before serving, some pepper and fried garlic are added on top. No ginger is used which is a clear testament on how fresh the fish is, hence there is no need for ginger to mask the fishy stench.

I highly recommend you give this a try when you are here but do note their opening hours which is from 11:30am-3pm on Wednesdays to Saturdays. They are closed from Sundays to Tuesdays. The entire dish is definitely not Instagram-worthy but it is most certainly one of the best foods for me.
