House Of Yam

House of Yam is a tzichar restaurant on the top floor of Heartland Mall. Whilst @jooeunchung and I frequent the all, we never visited the restaurant because it looks expensive. We took the plunge recently after da boss @tanhheliza highly recommended it.

They were running a special promotion recently (which has since ended) wherein you get a deep fried seabass for $0.99 (usual: $28.80) if you spend $69. There was only the two of us so we kinda over-ordered and the portions were really generous. We had to doggy bag quite a bit of food back as a result.

The deep fried seabass seems to be an off the menu special. The fish was flaky with an almost buttery taste whilst the skin was crispy. We both really liked this dish.

We didn't really like their salted egg prawns though as the salted egg flavour was rather muted and the batter was already kinda soggy when it was served.

We did however enjoy their eggplant with salted fish in a claypot. This is a perfect dish over rice as the gravy is savoury and addictive. We also liked their signature mama egg fried rice which comes topped with a generous portion of juicy prawns and has nice tinge of wokhey.

The last dish we had was their marmite pork ribs. This was well executed.

Our meal came up to $70. It's a little expensive for 2 pax but I think it is fairly reasonably considering the portions and how were greedy 😄.

House of Yam is now running a special monthly promotion where you get 40% off. They also have a really good bento set for $10 to $12. We have of course been back. Do check them out if you are in the area!
