So rare to find this in Singapore! It tasted more Singaporean than Thai, but I'll take it.

There wasn’t many places in Singapore that sell this, which is what Thai people the Khao Soi.

A punch of taste here, the Thai curry topped with crispy noodle, noodle, chicken leg and other spice ingredients.

I wasn’t expecting it could be so spicy, as I literally sweating like hell as I finishing it. Not sure whether it is attributed to the hot weather and less of fans in the coffee shop.

Because of the overwhelming spiciness, I actually couldn’t enjoy it much of the taste unfortunately. But the chicken leg is juicy, and lots of ingredients.

Heard all about the relatively new Kin Sen Thai Noodle located within the coffeeshop at Blk 181 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 — the coffeeshop being walking distance away from Mayflower MRT Station, and also houses the second outpost of Wano Niku; a stall which specialises in Yakiniku with its first outlet being situated in another coffeeshop along Cantonment Road. The logo of Kin Sen Thai Noodle can be said as pretty attention-grabbing; a pig soaking itself in a hot bowl of noodles. Occupying the space of a regular food stall within the coffeeshop, Kin Sen Thai Noodle serves up various individual portions of Thai dishes — think noodle dishes such as that of Thai Noodle (Pork) with Clear or Thick Soup and Dry Hor Fun (Pork), whilst there are also rice dishes such as Braised Pork Leg Rice and Basil Pork with Rice being listed on the menu. For those whom are looking for something to share around the table, one can opt for sides such as the Deep Fried Chicken Tendons or the Deep Fried Pork Skin.

We have been wanting to try Khao Soi for quite a long while, so we went straight for the Northern Thai Curry Chicken Noodle here. The Northern Thai Curry Chicken Noodle features elements such as two chicken drumlets, raw onions, pickled vegetables, coriander and fried noodles — these would accompany the noodles and curry gravy that comes with the bowl. The folks at Kin Sen Thai Noodle has also thoughtfully added a lime for patrons to squeeze some lime juice into the dish if they fancy. Digging into the bowl of noodles, it is noted that the noodles that they have used in this dish are slightly different from what we would usually come across with our usual selection of noodles from a typical neighbourhood local noodle stall; the noodles here are much more alike the same type that is used in sizzling hotplate noodles found in Taiwan — the sort where the consistency is more alike our yellow noodles, though bears somewhat of a shape that resembles that of linguine. These noodles were slurpy and provided much chew and bite; all within the bowl of curry gravy that isn’t quite as creamy as the typical Massaman / Green Curry that we are more familiar with. Instead, the curry spices are way more evident with this one — perhaps even a notch more distinct that our local Chinese-style curries where some may be a little masked from the coconut milk. It is noted that the curry here especially punchy — definitely spicy enough to carry a fiery kick even for those whom are accustomed to moderate levels of spiciness; the raw onions adding on to all of that with the inherent zing that it carries. One can enjoy the fried noodles as-is or by soaking them into the curry gravy; enjoying them in the former way meant that it carried a light crisp ones that added more texture to the dish, while eating it in the latter method meant that it’s a little bit more chewy — also a pretty interesting texture somewhat. The chicken drumstick was juicy and tender; the meat falling off the bone very easily. Overall, quite a satisfying curry dish to go for.

Whilst having tried only one of the many Thai dishes that Kin Sen Thai Noodles have to offer, we felt that they are a pretty rare find within a coffeeshop setting; there aren’t any many Thai stalls in coffeeshops around that serves up dishes such as the Northern Thai Curry Chicken Noodle, so residents around this neighbourhood within Ang Mo Kio are definitely a lucky bunch. The Northern Thai Curry Chicken Noodle is what one would really expect for one who is craving for Thai cuisine; it is pretty much punchy and spicy — definitely not shy in providing that extra fiery kick that tickles the tastebuds whilst being simple and hearty if one may. Whilst we have not been to northern Thailand this we are unable to comment on the authenticity of the Northern Thai Curry Chicken Noodle that we have had, we must say that we have left Kin Sen Thai Noodle pretty satiated — we would be looking forward to trying their other dishes again should we chance upon this area another time.
