Another TikTok scam. The noodles were one-dimensional and the bowl of pork soup was consistently mediocre. As a journalist, I always say: food reviews on TikTok are often exaggerated and overly positive because the creators are trying to gain clout. Pinch of salt.
If one has been following closely to the happenings in the local F&B scene for a while, Legacy Pork Noodles is a name that one shouldn’t find unfamiliar — these folks are one of the earliest names to have brought in the JB-style pork noodles into Singapore; widely-raved about when they had first opened their doors at Tai Thong Crescent which is a bit of a walk from Potong Pasir MRT Station, the stall was garnering rather insane queues for its pork noodles at one point of time. These folks had recently opened a second stall; situated within a Food Haus at Blk 421 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10, this location of Legacy Pork Noodles is situated beside the drinks stall within the coffeeshop. Whilst Legacy Pork Noodles had only previously served up a more limited menu during the time when we made our visit to their Potong Pasir location, the menu at Ang Mo Kio sees the addition of other items like the Dumpling Noodles and Dumpling Soup; there is also a list of side dishes that one can order to share across the table such as Fried Beancurd Roll, Fried Dumpling, Fried Wanton and Fried Ngoh Hiang.
The item to go for for those whom are visiting Legacy Pork Noodles for the very there time would be the Signature Pork Noodles — this would come with elements such as minced pork, pork slice, pork intestine, kidney and liver. That being said, Legacy Pork Noodles does offer the Pork Noodles that only includes minced pork, pork slices and pork balls for those whom wish to enjoy their pork noodles without the innards — this is exactly the version that we went for. Legacy Pork Noodles also allows patrons to chose between the soup and dry variant of the Pork Noodles; we went for the dry variant, while opting for Mee Kia for our choice of noodles (they also do carry Mee Pok, Hor Fun, Mee Tai Mak, Yellow Noodle and Mee Fen). This was the exact dish and combination that we had went for whilst visiting their Potong Pasir outlet for the first time. The bowl of noodles did come tossed with the same familiar black sauce and came with pork lard; we had also requested the noodles to come spicy and hence a scoop of chili was also added. The chili does provide the noodles a note of umami-ness similar to dried shrimp whilst carrying a deep savouriness from the black sauce that it came with; whilst the fried pork lard was crisp without being particularly greasy, we did recall them being slightly more generous with it at their Potong Pasir location.
Moving on to the bowl of soup, we really liked how the pork was being executed; all of the pork elements don’t feel like they were doused in seasoning just to rid off any porky stench that it might have carried, but the meat was inherently sweet and provide a juicy, bouncy bite and tasted really homely. That being said, the soup did feel less tastier than our experience with it at Potong Pasir; the soup certainly looked more clear and less cloudy from the residue of the minced meat that had disintegrated over time — this resulted in a bowl of soup that didn’t really provide much of that kick that we were hoping for anyway. That being said, the soup now comes with one crispy beancurd skin that soaks up the soup yet still retained some element of crispness while at it; the greens also adding an element of crunch at the same time. Not sure if they are still ironing out some teething issues but it does seem that the Ang Mo Kio location isn’t quite as consistent as their original stall at Potong Pasir where the quality of food is of concern — just hoping that it isn’t the case where the quality of their fare at Potong Pasir is going down however. Hopefully these folks are able to get everything sorted out though, considering how Ang Mo Kio is certainly a more convenient location for us to get our JB Pork Noodle cravings fixed without having to cross the border!
