Since its arrival in 2010, it has lead the café scene as a stellar example of what a cafe-bar can be. Their innovative, seasonal menus are truly original, and is testament to their chef’s artistry – you’ll have a hard time deciding what to order. For those of you with sweet teeth, go for their sizzling brownies or the banana caramel cake! It's a tad pricey to dine here, so be prepared. Nonetheless, it's a gorgeous space to enjoy the company of good friends over good food!
Located in the suburban Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Mukha is just the place to unwind in the evenings. Don't miss their Arabian teas (Sashi) and coffees (Gahwa), and go for the popular Steak Sandwich if you're hungry. For the sweet tooths, try the Nutella Chocolate Cheesecake or the Banoffee Pie baked daily by Mukha’s partner and in-house bakery - Souka. Beautifully decked out in vintage furniture, this cafe simply exudes comforting vibes that'll get you returning week after week.

Cafe-hoppers have The Red Beanbag to thank for setting and re-setting the standard for great brunch food in KL. The menu isn't fancy, but you'll be happy to see eggs in just about every form. While you might feel spoilt for choice, don't waste any time and head straight for the Macadamia Cheesecake Sundae. This sinful, messy creation will have you scooping chunks of macadamia cheesecake together with ice cream and caramel into one perfect mouthful. If what you crave is chocolate, then the super rich Chocolate Truffle Torte is the perfect choice. Set directly above the MPH bookstore, Namoo on the Park is a cosy space in Publika perfect for a laidback, intimate Korean-inspired meal. Most flock to Namoo for their tasty rice burgers, and you should too. But remember to save space for their desserts which are baked in-house daily. Interestingly, Namoo's best sellers are the Pumpkin Tofu cake and the Sweet Potato cake - both of which require an acquired taste. If you're not too hungry, simply curl up on one of their comfy chairs with their gorgeous sweet potato latte.
Step into The Bread Shop and you'll be greeted by an array of baked goods, ranging from individual quiches to custard almond buns. As the first bakery in Malaysia to offer the Kouign Amann, they've done it just right. Buttery, flaky and crispy with a caramelised exterior, it's a pastry that you really want to treat yourself to. Make sure to get it when it's fresh out of the oven! Other popular items include the Banana Scotch, a pastry filled with banana and topped with caramel, and the Cinnamon Swirl.
Innovatively refreshing, the Grumpy Cyclist is the eatery to grab a bite at for all cyclists and residents residing in Taman Tun. Begin your day with their to-die-for Crespella - four unbelievable fluffy chocolate chip pancakes topped with a fresh strawberry and cream, drizzled over with honey (RM12). If you want something more savoury, go for the Gran Fondo, a standard big breakfast with all the works. Dropping by just for a cuppa and something sweet? Try a slice of their heavenly Hazelnut Nutella cake.
Haikara Style Café and Bakery is a hidden gem in Subang Jaya run by a couple from Nagoya, Japan. Serving affordable home-cooked Japanese pastries and food, this place is a must for breakfast. If you dine in before noon, order the roasted coffee made from their special blend and receive Haikara’s famous homemade bread and scrambled eggs for free! For a more substantial meal, opt for their delightfully crisp, juicy chicken katsu sandwich. The Fujisan is a delectable dessert - a Kato-style bread pudding that comes with a homemade cheesecake base, layered with bread soaked in egg, cream and milk, then finished with ice cream and toppings. Now, that's definitely reason enough to visit Haikara.
