You can’t go wrong with fatty tuna and uni! The omakase from @toriosg was pretty worth it in my opinion, as the courses are packed with quite luxurious ingredients.

Thinking back on this massive crab from @kappousushi - the meat was super sweet and tender and the crab itself was a sight to behold!

Always a treat at @ushidokisg. The beef tartare with uni and caviar was super indulgent and every bite was such a bomb.

Love the skewers from @shukuuizakaya. Star of the night had to be the meatballs - juicy, tender and with the right of amount of fattiness. Get some sake to go with the skewers.

Have been fortunate to visit @kappousushi twice, and have been amazed during each meal. Pictured is a mini ikura and uni don that was part of a multi-course omakase prepared by chef Aeron, whose bubbly and friendly demeanour also contributes to the great experience at Kappou.

Finally tried the much-talked-about #manmanunagi! The melt-in-your-mouth unagi that is grilled to charred perfection paired with the dashi broth makes each mouthful an umami bomb. Be sure to try their appetisers such as the grilled eel liver as well.

The mini loco moco don lives up to its “mini” status by being pretty small portion-wise. Thankfully, it makes up for it’s lack of quantity with substantial quality. While the buttery and creamy foie gras was cooked perfectly, the homemade luncheon meat was more impressive. Although it tastes familiar to the processed version we are all acquainted with, it has a slightly more tender texture and does not have the overly salted/preservative-laden flavour. Pretty interesting and provides a nice savoury burst of flavour to the entire dish.

The century egg rolls were quite good - the sauce was rich and creamy, but not too overpowering. Similarly, their samurai unagi maki was melt in your mouth and quite well done. However, for the price, which is comparable to places like Koh Sushi at Wisma, the portions were a little small. The meal can get pretty pricey since portions are not big, especially if you order a variety to share.

The katsudon from Katsudon Hanakatsu is well worth it’s price; if not for its quality then at least for its quantity. For $13.50, you get a generous serving of fried pork and chicken cutlets. The chicken was definitely more tender and palatable than the pork which was tougher and harder to down towards the end of the meal. The large portions, while satisfying, made the entire meal pretty monotonous after a while especially since there’s only fried chicken and pork accompanying the rice. The spicy version gave it a nice kick, and was more enjoyable than the plain version. All in all, I would say it’s pretty value for money, although you might want to share it with a friend and have something else since finishing one is a bit much.

So lucky to be able to try fugu sashimi at this two day event held at Ushidoki! Given all the hype surrounding it due to its difficult preparation, it tasted pretty normal although it had quite a nice chewy texture. However, even that might not be for everybody. The skin of the puffer fish apparently is really good for you and has lots of collagen.

This was filled to the brim with premium ingredients - uni, caviar, wagyu beef, and foie gras, which made for a very rich and indulgent meal. However, given the steep price, I felt that this wasn’t really worth it, and the money would be better spent on their steak offerings where you get a much premium grade of beef.

These crab cakes were filled with quite a generous portion of crab meat. It was very creamy, and not fishy at all. However, I felt it was a tad too loose and soft, and would have preferred if it was slightly firmer. But I think this just comes down to personal preference. Taste-wise, these were great! Although considering the price, you might just want to save your moolah for the beef, which is really what this place is famous for.
