Chilly weathers these days make it so fit for everything hot and soupy! Haven’t had that many fish head steamboats to compare, but this one from Jin Jue Seafood boasts a broth with distinct herbal notes, resulted from the addition of dang gui and goji berries - yummm. Fish slices are deliberately served separately to avoid them breaking up too quickly in the pot, and we loved how the refills are of the actual broth, not just water or the watered down version.

Other dishes they serve up are your popular zi char items, like Curry Fish Head, Black Pepper Crabs, etc!

Got to visit Tribeca recently and found out more about their interesting multi menu concept. You’ll get to order from a huge menu as they house 6 different brands of a variety of cuisines - the popular Thai-Chinese zi char spot @thaipanrestaurant, Korean-Mexican fusion from @latakorea.sg, Italian from @pastatable.sg, Western from @southernsoul.sg & @tribecasg (plus lots of drinks from The Vault), and not forgetting desserts, from @smittenicecreambar.

We had a bit of everything and the highlight for us was the homely zi char dishes from Thai Pan - a name that might ring a bell for those who lived in the East. Heard that the Tribeca team specially invited the owner here! The squid slices retained a slight crisp even though we left it aside for a while. Wasn’t too oily or salty either. It’s $24 for the medium and $30 for the large.

Grandstand offers free parking and Tribeca has complimentary plugs and wifi for you - a possible alternative when you need a change of environment for wfh days.Thank you @tribecasg for having us! ✨

It’s more pricey than others out there, but very shiok! The clams we’ve had here have always been plump and very well coated in the bit spicy and super garlicky sauce. Another plus point is that we like how you don’t get too many empty shells!

Last meal at JB Ah Meng was more than a year back. So glad we decided to grab dinner here yesterday! It wasn’t difficult to decide on what to order cause we just went with our 2 staples, this bee hoon and the Fried Garlic Chilli Lala ($16 for S). Love how JB Ah Meng don’t overly fry the bee hoon but leaves it with just a slight crisp top. Distinct wok hei and you get lots of flavour from the bits of egg and strips of cuttlefish.

Was in the area and remember seeing a number for posts about this zi char place and their egg hor fun! We got the medium portion, but they do have the small at $6 and large at $15. The portion feels a little smaller than normal medium sizes, but we enjoyed it! Wok hei was pretty strong and ingredients were fresh. Lots of tasty and eggy zhup to go along.

Ordered a variety from this zi char spot via Deliveroo - Salted Egg Sotong($20 for M), Prawn Paste Chicken ($20 for M), Signature Beancurd ($18 for M), French Bean with Shrimp Paste ($12 for S), Sambal Kang Kong ($10 for S) along with some carbs. Nothing to complain about, all we had were good and seasoned nicely.

This was an interesting one! Slices of fried boneless pork ribs topped with a hot-cold combi of apple sauce and vanilla ice cream. Yes, ikr, ice cream?! Though overall it was a tad too sweet for us, it surprisingly worked out pretty decently, for the tart sauce to be balanced out with a creamy and sweet element. Apart from the tender pork ribs, you can opt for a chicken version too!

One of our favourites from lunch at Yi Shi, their handmade tofu was fried crispy and still retained soft and smooth inside. It looked simple with a light soy sauce and a generous topping of crunchy fried preserved turnip, but was very addictive without being overly salty. Will order this again in future!

Yi Shi Kitchen is tucked in Yishun’s A’Posh Bizhub - a little far out for us, but the affordably priced dishes and spacious dining area makes for a great zi char meal! The favs of our lunch were the Homemade Tofu with Preserved Turnip, Nonya Fish and the good ol’ zi char classic, Har Cheong Gai. Thumbs up too to the chefs who continuously strive to innovate new dishes. We tried their Apple Champagne Pork Ribs: fried pork ribs topped with a hot-cold combi of apple sauce and vanilla ice cream (yes, ikr?!) - was a tad sweet but surprisingly worked out pretty well!

Deep fried egg with basil, crispy golden mushrooms and sweet soy! Liked the subtle basil fragrance but would have been better if the dish was more consistently seasoned and a little less oily. Portion’s quite big so it’s best as a >3 pax sharing dish!

Everybody’s favourite to-go zi char dish and Yi Shi Kitchen did theirs very well - each piece was crispy and seasoned nicely without being too salty. Three of us wiped this clean easily!
