BACK!! At my favourite Thai place, where we ordered mostly the same dishes (must order the claypot tanghoon mah love) and tried the mango salad (way too sweet) and stuffed chicken wings (new must-order for me) for the first time.

This came as three stuffed wings, though you can easily cut them into smaller pieces for more sharing. A more memorable Thai side dish I’ve tried, the chicken wing was fried crisp, and came with a stuffing reminiscent of a ngoh hiang.

Very disappointed with this ramen, especially compared to how far their other signature (the tonkotsu) exceeded my expectations. Noodles didn’t seem legit, soup was passable but they added pickled ginger which I would prefer not to (perhaps put it at the side for people to add in themselves); only saving grace was the decent charsiu.

$10 for a salad that is meatless and cheese-less seems pricey, but the quality of the veggies (much like the crunchy and refreshing cabbage that comes with the tonkotsu) and tofu are definitely above average.

A very very good experience here at Manle, which not only had a huge array of ingredients (seafood even includes oysters, variety of clams, flower crab and prawns) but of which came with above average quality. Even the cooked food section (I believe it might be related to their Teochew porridge buffet selection) exceeded expectations, with pork trotters and fish included. You get your own individual mini steamboat here, and the best best thing is probably their pork marrow soup, which is just perfect (not msg-laden, good amount of umami that won’t get you jelat). Definitely coming back here.

Ddespite being tucked in an obscure corner, there is a constant queue at Garden Street Kway Chap. Kway chap is hard to be mindblowing kind of good, so I would say the version here is above average, nothing spectacular (though their salted veg is the best I’ve had, not too overpowering), just good old kway chap.

Aside from the weird (some might say shockingly terrible) soup served at the side, the Mini Wok stall here dishes out pretty decent dishes and good wok hei. Generous with the ingredients (charsiu and chicken included), will be back for this again.

Finally queued up for this! As a sweet potato lover 😗🍠 $2.80 is pricey for 1, as you can buy a pack of 5 at that price. Nevertheless, this came piping hot and sweet, quite like the kinds you can get at convenience stores in Japan and Taiwan. Definitely not the sweetest I’ve tried, but good buy :) (plus you get to enjoy the donki song as you queue and eat)

While we usually dine at the telok blangah outlet, we sought out this outlet for the first time as we were in the area. Our usual outlet has more of a old-time, kooky ambience, while here had the typical aircon zichar environment you would bring your entire extended family to.

Everything was very consistent — claypot fish head was comforting as usual, while the salted egg yolk chicken was heavy in that required flavour and crispy.

Idaten Udon provides an affordable and quality option, serving variations of udon with selections of tempura available. I have to say that udon is my least preferred Japanese noodle (ramen comes first, then soba), but the udon here has the perfect amount of bounce and chewiness that I don’t mind opting for this over ramen some days. Chose the chicken steak and egg udon option, which came with egg drop soup, perfect for egg-lovers (me!!). Don’t forget the tiny bar of sauces, tempura bits and seaweed; I must have taken 3 bowls of seaweed to dunk in the soup. Added a dollar more to upgrade to matcha udon, which seems to make zero difference to the taste, so just stick to the original.

We were all slightly disappointed when they served this cold, and we had to wait for the small fire below to heat up the dish. Nevertheless once the wait was over (surprisingly quick enough), I immensely enjoyed the tangy spicy sauce, which tasted similar to tom yum soup (so you can skip an order of tom yum).
