Hawker stalls to try
Was at Common wealth and was looking for a place for lunch. Burpple recommended this wanton mee and true to its review, the noodle didn't disappoint! Ordered the ngo hiang too, but thought it was slightly oily. Nevertheless it was a good plate of noodle!

A favourite among westies and office workers in the one-north vicinity, Revolution Coffee won us over with their dedication to both their coffee and food. The java here is brewed using beans from their sister company The Caffeine Dispensary, while their kitchen is helmed by respected chef Shen Tan, known for her modern Singaporean cooking. The communal tables are great for big group gatherings, so don't head here during meal hours if you're looking for a spot of quiet. Order the well-balanced Cappuccino ($5.50) to go with the locally-inspired treats. A must-order, especially if it's your first time, is chef Tan's Nasi Lemak with tender, rempah-laced Beef Rendang ($9.90); there are other protein options like fried chicken and crispy pork. Other fusion plates to try include the Buah Keluak Pasta and Bak Chor Mee Pasta ($19.90 each). Just be sure to save space for the imaginative desserts like Pulot Hitam Pudding ($10), a tasty marriage between pulot hitam and sticky date pudding, and Shendol Delights ($10), the chef's take on chendol. Pro tip: On weekdays from 8am to 8pm, hop on the free shuttle bus that takes you to-and-fro One North MRT Station and Infinite Studios, where the cafe is.

Hers is all vegetables and no sauce while mine is everything fried. Oops!
Having served up Mutton Soup ($5) for several decades, this stall is an institution in Bukit Timah Food Market & Food Centre, and worth a visit especially on cold, dreary days. According to Burpple Tastemaker Fabian Poon, who has been patronising the stall since he was a young boy, Chin Hock uses pure Chinese herbs in the soup and licorice root for a sweet finish, unlike many places that use rock sugar. The result is a well-balanced herbal soup that's easy to drink, yet helps to tame the gaminess of the fork-tender mutton. Yum!

Fried Hokkien Mee ($3)
Nothing beats comfort food from the hawker centre! While this plate of hokkien mee isn't particularly outstanding, I would not hesitate ordering this again if I am at 7th Mile Bukit Timah Food Centre! Of the various editions of one of our most loved hawker fare, I love the kind that uses thick bee hoon and flat yellow noodles, fried full of wok-hei and is hovering somewhere between semi wet and not too dry so that I can savour the zhup as I slurp up the noodles because it is thick enough to stay coated on the noodles! Yum yum😋!
