Western Food In Singapore
Went to the outlet at Downtown East. Service was very very bad. The staff were all seated down and did not even asked if we would like water. Not only that, they seemed to be staring intently in my direction and laughing at something on their phones. Happened to be around the area and apprently my friend has the Eatigo app which allows us to get half-off the food there.
I decided to get the Mushroom Soup ($5.90) for starters. The truffle oil was used to cover up the blandness of the soup. At least the Mentaiko Pizza ($18.90) fared better. Simple ingredients of shrimps, mozarella, mayo and mentaiko. Served on a thin crust, I wished the edges would have been softer and less charred. We asked for parmesan cheese which they did not have. Average food, bad service, zero ambience.
Ordered Carbonara this time after a bad experience with their fish and chips(very dry, salad was doused with a horrendous dressing). There was a 1-1 promotion going on at $11.90 for most of their selected mains using an app. Added on a cream of mushroom $4.90. The soup bowl was only half filled. Pretty disappointing. Only if you happen to be around the area and dying for a quiet place apart from the hustle and bustle, give this place a try. Other than that, I do not see enough reason to eat here when I can get Dominoes or other western food around the vincity.
With tons of branches in coffee shops and three restaurants, nobody would have thought Collins standard to be consistent throughout. At least I didn't. I first came across Collins through some sponsorship deal and they were edible though the various sauces for the chicken, salad and aglio olio killed the palette. Too many things going on. I decided to try something else since the restaurant menu doesn't seem so bad. We sat in this table which had fixed seats and table that were really narrow and claustrophobic. The menu gave me a headache because the photos were overtly vibrant. Too many choices but I settled on salmon with vegetables, potato wedge, corn cob and no idea what sauce it was. Apart from that, got a side of deep fried squid. My friend had mixed grill consisting of pork and chicken chop, bratwurst sausage. The mushroom soup I ordered came with a long strand of hair on the outside of the bowl. Kudos to the server for not noticing this and placing it down hurriedly despite the non peak hour. Campbell's mushroom soup tastes so much better. All I tastes were cream, no mushrooms even the pepper and parmesan cheese couldn't help. Squid came adorned with the same salad with honey balsamic and english mayo. Nothing fantastic. My main was horrendous. Corn had tiny black spots when I cut through to get all of it out. Wedges were frozen, inedible. Vegetables had a weird taste. Fish was overly cooked. None of it made me want to finish but for the price, I just had to try my best. God of the sausage my friend gave me was absolutely disgusting. I really don't know why so many people were queuing and eating at Collins. With this standard is it to say Singaporeans have no taste in food? Now I know Collins and Chargrill is on par with being the worst western food in Singapore.
