Tried their yong tau foo previously and had written the stall off. But this spinach soup ($3.50 + $0.50 for rice) impressed me so much!! First of all, the portion is huuuge. And secondly, the soup was so fragrant! It was filled with the requisite spinach, mushrooms and wolf berries. The prawns were sweet and succulent. Was also surprised to find chunks of minced meat inside, all seasoned well! This might become my go-to meal at the hawker centre ๐Ÿฅณ

Definitely spoilt for choice here! Chose something out of my norm with their Honey Oolong Tea ($2.50) - the first sip was really sweet, but the bitter depth of oolong comes through after.

When did the queue here get so long?! This is a store that has withstood the test of time. It seems a little less popular than the neighbouring Original Avocado, but I like that this one ($3 / $4) is thick and creamy. It has less gula melaka, allowing the avocado to shine through!

Hereโ€™s the mixed hor fun ($4.50)! The wok hei flavour is distinct, and the noodles chewy. The gravy is thick and flavourful yum. The store is generous with ingredients - this had pork, fish, squid and prawns. One of my favourites!!

Always face decision paralysis at Ghim Moh because there is so much to choose from, but this is a family favourite :-) firmer than most other places, the chwee kueh ($0.50/pc, min $2) gives a good bite! Aunty is not very generous with with her cai poh but what she lacks in quantity, she more than makes up for with quality. The pickled vegetables pack a punch, and is complemented by the chilli.

One of my favourites!! The menu underwent a revamp recently, and is now very extensive. My favourite chicken panini is now served as a set meal ($5) with fries and spiced soup. Highlight of this store is definitely the juicy grilled meat chock full of flavour!!

This is from the less famous stall (further down the middle row, not next to the ngoh hiang stall), but I prefer this one! The egg is super crispy and the starch is not too dense. The oysters were also pretty fresh, albeit pricey ($8 for.. 8 pieces of oyster).

Tried this rather famous stall in the middle row! The bee hoon was well flavoured and silky, though the bean sprouts were a little bitter. Especially liked the tau gua (crispy on the outside and perfectly smooth on the inside) and the prawn cracker (densely flavoured!!) ($10.60 including ngoh hiang, fish ball and youtiao).

Had read about this famous stall set up by a young hawker in Yishun, and was very surprised to find their second outlet in Maxwell! We got 4 wings ($1.80 each, comprising wing + drumlet) and they do live up to the hype. The wings are marinated for 2 days for the flavours to be absorbed into the meat, and deep fried twice in batter to create that golden crunch. Was slightly disappointed to find that the meat itself wasnโ€™t as flavourful as Iโ€™d expect, and be warned that the wings drip with oil. However, the batter is delightfully crispy and with a distinctive aroma! As far as har cheong gais go, this one hits the nail with the batter. Uncle said that business is good on weekdays, but tourists tend to flock to the famous chicken rice stall right beside his - perhaps a weekend would be a good time to give their wings a try!

These popiah rolls (one for $1.50, two for $2.80) had a brilliant bite with the generous serving of peanuts and crunch turnip. Found the sauce rather watery though, and not flavourful enough. Really enjoyed the chilli!

This item from Jian Bo (5 for $2.50) has been a staple for many years - love how the steamed cake is soft but not mushy as well as the savoury cai poh mixed with shallots and hei bi. Plus points for the fragrant chilli and use of less oil! #oldisgold

Tried this store ($1.80/roll) on a friendโ€™s recommendation! Am not usually a big fan of popiah, but this is easily one of the best Iโ€™ve ever had. The skin was soft and thin but held up well, even after being packed full with ingredients. The sweet sauce is particularly good!
