Kelim Dakdoritang, a popular Korean restaurant chain with close to 60 years of history, has opened its first outlet in Singapore (@kelim_sg) at Serangoon Gardens.

The star was the Dakdoritang (Signature Korean Spicy Garlic Chicken Stew), which came with a generous serving of garlic, chicken, potatoes, and rice cakes. It was my first time trying this unique dish. For a garlic lover like me, this was really enjoyable. The garlic added an extra oomph to the broth and the bone-in chicken pieces were really tender, alongside the QQ tteokbokki. Garlic breath don’t care! I’d recommend adding on the Kalguksu (knife-cut noodle), which has a smooth and chewy texture that paired well with the flavourful broth. Remember to save some broth for the Bocumbap (K-Style Fried Rice) too, to complete the deliciousness. Infused with the stew's essence and mixed with seaweed, soybean sprout, and diced radish kimchi, this was a comforting delight!

Quite enjoyable but got a tad jelak midway through. The rice cakes were really tasty though!

A hearty and comforting bowl, although we found the soup to be a tad under seasoned. Comes with kimchi, pork slices and tofu. Would be good to have on rainy days!

This rice bowl was pretty good! The pork belly was crispy and tender, while the scrambled eggs were soft and fluffy! The homemade Yuja (Yuzu) soy sauce added a sweet and savoury touch to the dish!

We visited this relatively new Korean restaurant & bar located at Clarke Quay, for dinner recently.

The one dish that really stood out for us was the Seafood Kimchi Risotto - the fresh seafood (prawn, clams, squid) combined really well with the kimchi, and it was so creamy and satisfying! The ambience here is really lively too, and would make for a nice spot for an after-work chill or makan session with friends and colleagues. Plus, they have live music here!

We tried Korean fried chicken from Waker Chicken recently at their Holland Drive outlet and here’s our ranking in order of most to least favourite:

~Honey Butter
~Sweet Spicy
~Original Crispy
~Soy Sauce

The chicken were all crispy and fried really well, but we felt that the individual seasonings were a hit & miss! We enjoyed Honey Butter most; it’s so rich and such a flavour bomb when you eat it! The Sweet Spicy was pretty good too, although I felt that it could have been spicier. The Original Crispy was decent but felt very plain tasting without any seasoning, while the Soy Sauce one was surprisingly bland.

They have other outlets located at Marsiling, Bukit Batok & New Upper Changi Road as well, and they are also available to order via GrabFood, foodpanda & Deliveroo too.

✨ Overall Rating: 3.3/5

SBCD Korean Tofu House, known for their soft tofu stew, recently opened their express outlet Buk Chang Dong Soon Tofu at Ang Mo Kio (with another outlet opening tomorrow at Punggol). You can get your fix of tofu stew at pocket-friendly prices (from $6 - $8) here, with 6 types of soft tofu sets to choose from. Each set comes with kimchi, rice and a packet of seaweed.

Disclaimer: I’m reviewing this on the basis that I’ve tried the stew from SBCD. The portions you get here are obviously smaller but still substantial enough for me. Of the 2 sets that we had (Assorted / Pork), I would recommend going for the assorted as there’s more variety in the ingredients. The tofu was smooth and silky, while the soup was comforting (although we felt the that the soup at SBCD was more well-balanced in taste overall). We also had the Mandu (dumplings), which we really enjoyed and highly recommend you to order as a side if you are here! They were so crispy and juicy!

Overall, I feel that this is good for the price you are paying. But if price is not a factor for you, then I’ll encourage you to head down to SBCD to get your fix instead!

This is a much lighter dish compared to the Volcano Galbi but no less yummy! There’s slices of beef inside the Steamer, along with dumplings, mushrooms, and vegetables all on top of a bed of beansprouts that are steamed for 15 minutes before consumption. Because everything is steamed, you’ll want to dip them in the sauces provided. The boiling soup below the steamer soaks up all the flavour from the beef and vegetables. With the top layer done, they’ll add in a side of knife-cut noodles for a heartier

Mimi Pollack Set (we chose Spicy Pollack & Soybean Paste Soup): A grilled spicy pollack fillet that was so tender! The bones have also been removed beforehand so it’s easy to eat too. The Soybean Paste Soup was flavourful, and filled with ingredients!

This is basically like a beef hotpot where the beef is slowly cooked over fire in a spicy broth chock full of beansprouts. The beef slices are of good quality and really tender, while the broth is robust and peppery! It’s delicious and comforting overall! Once you’re done with the hotpot, you can even add on fried rice and cheese to be cooked with the leftover broth and seaweed. It’s super shiok and fragrant!

Sometimes I think that if I were ever in Squid Game, the lack of food is what will get me, not the challenges! An egg and a cider is enough to make anyone wanna fight. Thankfully there’s no need to fight anyone for food at the All-You-Can-Eat Tteokbokki Buffet from 90 Minutes.

As their name suggests, the duration of the buffet is 90 minutes long, and prices start from as low as $14.90++/pax (adult) onwards, which is super affordable if you ask me!

Choose from a variety (5 choices) of Korean-style soup base combinations (my recommendation is “90mins the Best”), and then add on ingredients into the pot to cook! The ingredients include fishcake skewers (love this!), 5 different types of tteokbokki, meats, seafood (clams, prawns), vegetables and noodles! There’s also cooked dishes too, like Korean fried chicken, mandu (pork & vegetable dumpling) and kimmari (fried seaweed noodle rolls). I’d also recommend adding on the cheese ring for that extra oomph! Oh ya, once you are done with your first meal, don’t forget to ask the staff to prepare the fried rice for you (using the leftover broth) to complete your experience!

As I mentioned before, I’m currently still only half vaccinated, so I’m still unable to dine out just yet. So when I’m craving for food like Korean BBQ, I’m thankful I can count on delivery services like Yuksik KBBQ, that delivers high quality Korean BBQ right to my doorstep!

I ordered the Party Set w/ Beef for 8pax which includes Pork Belly (300g), Marinated Pork Collar (300g), Wagyu Beef Brisket Shabu (200g), Rib Fingers (200g), Marinated Rib Fingers (200g), Soy Marinated Chicken (200g), Gochujang Marinated Chicken (200g), Sides (8 portions) + Complimentary Lettuce & Sliced Garlic, Sauces (8 portions) & Drinks: 1.5L Coca Cola + 1.5L Green Tea.

Overall, it was a really enjoyable meal that we had, everyone’s bellies were so satisfied! The meats were so yummy - well marinated and of high quality! My favorite were the Pork Belly and Wagyu Beef Brisket Shabu, so juicy and tasty after grilling! Love their variety of side dishes too, especially the Potato Salad - so good! Additionally, they also provide grill rental for the BBQ too if you don’t have any at home, and comes back to pick it up after (around 2.5 hours after delivery), without any clean up required on our end! How convenient and hassle-free is that!

If you’re keen to order or find out more about their prices, you can do so via their website at www.yuksik.sg/. Use my promo code ‘JON10’ on checkout for 10% off food orders, valid till 29 August 2021.
